(72,134 posts)They may as well be wearing signs.
I'm a little astonished at the unaccustomed display of good manners, though. Only one of them is wearing his ball cap at the table.
Guys wearing hats and caps inside, especially at the table, is a little rage-inducing to me. I was raised with real Southern manners; and one never, ever wears one's hat or cap inside or at the table. Any guy who does is low class, whatever economic class he fits into.
I really, really hate it when I go out for a nice meal, and some ill-bred fuckstick is wearing a hat at the table. I'm like: "Dude, stick to Taco Bell, all right? Trying to enjoy a fine dinner here."

This style was popular there among the lower classes and immigrants around the Big Apple before it was adopted in other areas of the country. I always think of Marlon Brando playing Stanley Kowalski in "Streetcar Named Desire."

(76,643 posts)..Dago Tees. Interesting that I never saw a single member of my family wear one & we were pretty Italian.
So, different regions, different names I suppose.
When they became fashionable in the 70s, the name changed to tank top & that seems to have stuck.

(72,134 posts)I'm almost totally bald, and I have never even once tried to hide the fact, either by wearing a hat everywhere I go, or by creative acts of hair-engineering to fashion a combover for my bald skull.
Long before I started losing my hair at age twenty-four, I had heard women talk about how baldness can be sexy. So I didn't worry so much about it. And I was right not to.

(23,063 posts)"wompage" to describe a comb-over. Then there is a term "bilateral wompage" which indicates that side hair from both sides is being combed over in an attempt to disguise the baldness on the top of the head. I found these terms really funny.
And then there's Trump - who uses both wompage and hair dye to cover up baldness that is evident to all. Who does he think he is fooling?
hes trying to fool himself.

(6,671 posts)He had a flap with hair pulled over from some other part of his head. I believe it was Ivana who wrote in her autobiography that he became enraged at the outcome and assaulted her because she suggested the plastic surgeon (something along those lines).
So, he doesn't have just a combover but a flapover.

(72,134 posts)I just take my hat off indoors and at the table.
That's a proper Southern upbringing combined with military training. The only time a soldier is supposed to wear headgear indoors is if he is under arms (wearing or holding a weapon). Once, when I was in Basic Training, I didn't whip my cap off fast enough when entering the barracks. A drill sergeant saw me, and smacked me across the head, knocking my cap to the floor. "Now get down with it!" he said, meaning drop to the floor and do punishment pushups. Never forgot after that.

(7,398 posts)The memo clearly said, white or pastel polo and white or grey shorts or pants.
In 1776 all women, all children, and all non white men were "property" - or at best - had no legal standing at all.
Even wealthy white married women had no citizenship and no political rights. Married women in 1776 could not own property, sign contracts or access the judicial system. Any money they inherited or wages they earned legally went to their husbands. They didn't even have the right to see their own children.
This is what these men want.

(7,398 posts)Originally the provision for women was not there. Lindy Boggs added the provision banning discrimination due to sex or marital status without informing the other members of the banking committee beforehand. Later she simply said she realized it was missing and added it assuming the omission was an oversight with "I'm sure you'll approve." And they did.
Lindy Boggs was an interesting woman, worth reading about. Look her up.

(4,741 posts)So that she could get the standard bank accounts (checking and savings). They required him to co-sign for her car loan and lines of credit. The utility services required the same. Stock brokers and investment firms--same thing.
Never mind how she earned more in one year than grand-da had in his 3 peak earning years--adjusted for inflation.
The year: 1971.
In 1974, just before the credit laws changed, Mum got engaged, and decided she wanted to start her married life in a home of her own. She found her dream home, so time for a mortgage. Except no bank would give her a mortgage without a husband or male relative co-signing. No, it didn't matter that she was ready to make a 50% down payment on it. Bring in a man of the house, little lady, or get out. She couldn't call on Grand-Da anymore--he'd died. Her brothers weren't in a financial position to co-sign. So a husband is necessary? Fine.
The wedding date got moved up. She had to give up the big wedding she'd wanted, for that house. Because sexist pigs wouldn't let her get a mortgage otherwise.
I think it was 6 months later when the law passed, about 10 days after Mum's original wedding date.

(9,229 posts)my boyfriend and I, hippies in our early 20s, were doing a road trip around the country in a tricked out van with a dragon painted on the side. Shortly after entering the state of Missouri, the van broke down on the highway. We were trying to figure out what was wrong when along came a couple of cops. They looked the van over closely then radioed for a tow truck which took us to a garage close by. While the carburetor was being repaired, they sat in their car and waited across the street. When we got back in the van they came over and told us to leave the state and never come back. They did not want "our kind" in their state. They did follow us all the way to the border.
Well, I have never set foot in that state again and never will. I have also never purchased anything that came from there. I can assure you other states have benefited nicely from my visits. Screw 'em. They were evil back then and still clearly are. That photo does not surprise me in the least.

I know they tend to serve now as examples of 1970's kitch. But as a kid growing up back then, I thought all those creatively painted and airbrushed vans were cool. I kind of miss them.

And what really pisses me off is that they need to proclaim that they alone, and only them, are saving Missouri for liberty and freedom.
Today, I feel like I got just as much freedom and liberty as I want, and w/ tRUMP gone, it's even better since I don't have to worry about djt stealing the cookies from the cookie jar or putting his family in government service (in short, in a position to steal everything). I also don't have to worry about thugs like this passing laws that don't allow the cities to do as they please (it's called self-governance) and not let these people who have no idea of how big cities operate (oh no! these places are riddled w/ crime!).
I had more crime committed at my place in the Missouri Ozarks than I ever did in my place in STLMO city. That's why I am so down on these thugs who think that they know it all, know what everyone should have and do, etc. I want to throw up when I hear nonsense like this.
