WOW: I greatly appreciate when ex-Republicans speak out against the prejudice present in the Republican party and acknowledge its negative implications. This individual, who used to identify as conservative, shares that he renounced his affiliation with the Republican party after witnessing racism directed towards Barack Obama. Moreover, they witnessed instances where Republicans obstructed legislation beneficial for the nation, solely with the intention of undermining the former president. There's a 1 minute video behind his comment that seemed worthy of passing on
The video got me more than their comment

(6,846 posts)I've lost count of how many people who never much cared to discuss politics before will say something along the lines of voting Republican in the past but never again. They say they are determined to vote a straight Democratic ticket in every race ... to send a message. Some of them volunteer that they voted for the defendant the first time but not the 2nd.
Anecdotal, but it's what I see in this little place of America. Whether or not they stand by it in the voting booth is another . I've been watching the last several votes and will say the margin the GOP has won by is shrinking in my precinct.

(7,536 posts)I sent an email to the New Hampshire Secretary of State saying that since New Hampshire holds the 1st presidential primary it seems important that New Hampshire gets a court ruling on whether Trump's name can appear on the ballot (applying the requirements of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution).
So far I have not received a response. Not even a thank you for your inquiry.

(10,416 posts)She pointed out that the 14th Amendment could prevent Trump from holding office. But it does not say he cannot be a candidate for office in an election
(though the obvious argument would be if he can't hold the office, why should he be allowed to be a candidate for it ? ... ).

(7,536 posts)Right now it is all speculation over "could" when it needs to be "does" or "does not" and only the Supreme Court can decide that. Time is wasted because of inaction. This needs to be determined before the selection process begins. To do otherwise would deprive the Republican voters of selecting the qualified candidate of their choice. Process matters. Inaction shows a lack of leadership on the part of the 50 State Secretary of State. The responsibility for this is in their hands and they need to act now.

(10,416 posts)As the evidence comes out in these cases, his support will erode. American public will reach similar conclusions to the Grand Juries.
I don't think he can win. If he does, that's when the 14th Amendment comes in.
I'd rather the GOP go down with him.
As opposed to taking Trump out now and the GOP come up with someone else vs Biden (who they have tarnished terribly already, like they did to Hillary, with their lies )
Lying about the evidence and verdicts in Trump's cases won't be so easy - especially if GA is televised.

One interesting one was "if the 14th Amendment is not enforceable because it isn't laid out in the Constitution, how does one enforce 'Natural Born Citizen' or the 35 year old age limit?

So many just want to move past Trumpy-bear and regroup from there. They know another bad year (2024) is coming and it's going to take another defeat to end the Trump control of the GOP.
