I'm sure it has benefits for the forum owners or they wouldn't change it.
Milestones is a waste of time
dumping the left side forums/topics list is not useful
don't care about "my notes"
takes an extra click to get the "my posts" equivalent
Probably am not using most features of DU 3 tho.
cannot see DU4 on my phone or tablet yet.

(68,438 posts)I got my panties in a bunch when Amazon moved the search bar from top to bottom, but I adjusted. My bank changed its online format and I hated it; now I don't remember how it was.
So...whatever.

(102,873 posts)I like the dark mode, probably the best change of all.
I don't like the flashing "MY STUFF" thing, it's annoying to begin with but to have the freaking thing flashing for whatever reason it does this seems to be unnecessary.
I also don't like the feed stuff on the left column, I liked the old left column and I would rather have the video lsit on the right side like it was.
Not really thrilled about the placement of a few things and the pics in the sig lines are too small to see what they are.
I think there's just too much of too much with a lot of it. I didn't want DU to mimic Xitter or any other platform, makes it hard to tell which I'm looking at now.

(23,639 posts)You can customize it, click My Stuff > Account Settings and scroll down to the "My Stuff" notifications section.
For your left column, you can manage notifications by going to your Feed page, click My Stuff > Feed. Once there, see the settings on the left side of the page, where you can turn all the notifications off if you like.
Also for your left column, any forums that you subscribed to (by clicking the Subscribe button at the top of any forum) will be linked in the navigation section. So you can build your own menu of favorite forums.
For the videos, I moved them because I wanted to feature the new Forum Spotlight feature in that position, but I hoped the new Latest Videos page (Navigate > Latest Videos) would make up for it. You can find a lot of cool stuff on that page by playing with the filter bar at the top to show different types of video.

(102,873 posts)I tried to set it to "badge" but it goes back to "default" but looking at the bugs page I see you're working on that so I'll wait to see how that works out.
Thanks for all the work you've done to give us more options and tools, probably more than I need but that's me, I'm on the downslope here so there's that.

(21,799 posts)Take off the flashing on the "my stuff" area! It's very jarring to me.

(36,934 posts)I didnt like the flashing either. So now it just gets brighter when i have a notification.

We aren't teenagers anymore. Too much strain to see the tiny words on the new DU

(172 posts)In mobile Safari browsers, click the two As next to the URL and then click the small or large A to change size. In other browsers like Chrome it will be different (may have to go through settings).
flamingdem
(40,902 posts)I really don't like it.
Doubt I can get used to it.
I think it's a mistake to make the text size unusually tiny.
It's too elegant without being useful as in being able to be read easily.

(34,920 posts)If you use Firefox, there's a stack of three lines in the upper right side, in the same bar as the URL. In Chrome, it's 3 dots, rather than bars. Clicking on it pulls down a menu, which should have a "Zoom" option. With Firefox, you can add the zoom feature to your toolbar via "Customize Toolbar."
You can also zoom in or out in either browser using Ctrl+ to increase size, or Ctrl - (minus) to reduce the size. It probably works with every other browser, as well.

(23,639 posts)What you're seeing here is not finalized, in fact the purpose of this test is so that we can track down issues like this and find a way to fix them.
A number of people have notified us that the font size is too small for them. We'll be working on a "larger fonts" option in Account Settings which will allow you to increase the text size if you choose.

Editorials & Other Articles is not currently displayed in a category because it's scheduled to be removed on DU4 *but* this isn't confirmed yet -- one of the last things we're going to do in this whole process is figure out which Topic Forums should stay and which should be retired, or combined with other forums. That will be a discussion which will involve input from all DUers, I'm sure everyone will have an opinion.
So yeah, it's a known issue that one of the problems currently on DU4 is confusion about the forums, but we're going to resolve this a bit later on.

Not so happy about the new font... Will be really sad if Editorials and Other Articles gets zotzed.
Didn't like the left column stuff, found some things annoying until I pushed enough buttons and explored enough options to customize them away. (Point being that I COULD customize them away. Lots more control over the user interface in DU4...)
Overall, I like it.

(4,469 posts)Thats worth any amount of discomfort with the new design. Fantastic upgrade to my experience.
It is definitely overall more elegant and sleek but Im glad to hear the font size will become adjustable. I find myself doing more scrolling on my iPad because theres so much air in the design.
Must be said though, I am eternally grateful to the creators and administrators of this site, whose place in history is assured and assuredly on the side of humanity. All the effort you expend to keep us comfortably and promptly informed of so much crucial information is SO appreciated.
