Former President Trump on Wednesday said he would be willing to testify in his own defense at a potential trial.
Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt asked Trump if he would testify if he has to go to trial as the former president faces criminal charges in New York, Florida, Georgia and Washington, D.C.
Oh, yes, absolutely, Trump responded.
Youll take the stand? Hewitt asked.
That, I would do. That, I look forward to, because thats just like Russia, Russia, Russia, Trump said, referring to allegations that his campaign coordinated with the Russians during the 2016 campaign, which a special counsel investigation did not find evidence of.

He is, of course, lying but... I'd enjoy watching him convict himself

(7,450 posts)We probably couldnt get enough magas to make it work. They would say, hed testify, but they wouldnt want to back it up with their money.
It would just show how magas have little, realistic confidence in tfg.

(8,851 posts)alway does in a deposition...bloviate, self-congratulate, blame, blather, insult, accuse, deflect...
remember, his E.Jean Carroll deposition was devastating as was the Leticia James tax fraud deposition...
the likelihood of Truimp taking the stand is nil...he demanded to testify before the J6 committee (never happened), he was a no-show at the E.Jean Carroll defamation trial (his European golf courses demanded his onsite presence), but when he was not welcomed with open arms and the press gaggle questioned him about Carroll's damning testimony, he insisted he had to return home to take the stand (never happened)...

And if he insisted, two options: Quit or have him sign a Disclaimer, to protect against consequent legal malpractice.

Is his lifelong crime spree coming to an end soon? We shall see.

(3,211 posts)Anyone remember the shitstorm that Ollie North stirred up during Iran-Contra? The New York Times even ran an editorial scolding the American people for the fascism that was on display during the whole circus that North created. (I first heard about that in a talk by Noam Chomsky, who isn't the biggest fan of the NYT).
I sure hope there are some really strong guardrails in any litigation involving Trump, because everyone knows he will attempt to exploit whatever loopholes he can find.

(1,183 posts)There was a time before where Trump testified in a civil trial; it did not go well.
USFL sued the NFL for being a monopoly.
USFL won but only in about $3 in damages.
The NFL commissioner at the time, Pete Rozelle testified as well did Donald Trump.
Their testimony was completely different except them meeting in a hotel room.
Per the article below, the NFL attorney decided to make Trump the fall guy.

Mr. Evil
(3,457 posts)TFG wanted to own a NFL franchise so bad but, the NFL already knew about him and his shady finances and said no on multiple occasions. So, TFG thought he could backdoor the NFL requirements for team ownership by forcing a merger between the NFL and the USFL and by being owner of the New Jersey Generals could become a NFL owner by default. The USFL suffered greatly by these actions of TFG and subsequently folded.
Everything TFG touches dies.

This is similar to him saying he is considering participating in the debates, and all along we know he won't because he would do badly.
