A woman was driving drunk, down North ave, and North ave takes a hard right or else the driver ends up driving off a cliff into Lake Michigan.
The woman was driving way too fast and ended up in Lake Michigan.
Her passenger was killed.
I am acquainted with the woman, she's an alcoholic, with a couple DUI's.
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WBAY) - A 25-year-old Sheboygan woman has been arrested for the death of her passenger after crashing her car into Lake Michigan.
As we first reported, the driver failed to make a curve on N. 3rd Street in Sheboygan late Monday night. The car went off the road and into the water, killing 37-year-old Angela Williams, who was also from Sheboygan. The driver suffered serious injuries.
Police determined both speed and alcohol were factors in the fatal crash.
Police are recommending charges of Operating While Under the Influence Causing Death, Homicide by Intoxicated use of a Motor Vehicle, Knowingly Operating While Revoked Causing Death, and 1st-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety. Its up to the district attorneys office to decide on the charges.

(18,509 posts).... she is definitely going to miss some back to back New Year's Eve celebrations. She screwed up her remaining days. But her passenger paid the ultimate price.

(79,051 posts)I try to view these things objectively. I have to be honest with myself, and recognize that long ago, I drove drunk. And drunk people do not think in a sober manner. In July of 1975, a friend who I had been riding around with -- drinking and smoking pot -- was two vehicles ahead of me when he hit another car head-on, killing two innocent people and himself. After that, when drunk, I rode with equally drunk people driving, somehow convincing myself I was playing it safe.

(19,156 posts)I was young and stupid once. Back then I would sometimes drive when I'd had too many. I always felt bad about it the next day, because, I dunno, I guess my parents didn't raise me to be an idiot or uncaring. One day I decided that BEFORE drinking, I would either have a way home that didn't involve me or someone else driving after drinking; or I just wouldn't drink. I still had many occasions when I could really tie one on without worry. (well at least not the worry of killing someone by driving drunk).
The key thing is, I learned HOW to turn down a drink without regretting it. I learned how to handle social occasions with non-alcoholic drinks and not care if people thought I was in AA because I wouldn't drink. I just say, "I have to drive later, so I'm not drinking." I would like to think that I set an example for other people, and maybe at least one other person will realize what a good idea it is.
I also figure if someone WANTS to not drink and drive, but can't resist that first drink even after planning not to drink because of driving - that person should high-tail it to AA (or other program of choice).

(1 post)Unfortunately, I know the driver of this incident. It was only a matter of time before she killed someone. We just assumed it would be one of her children with the way they were treated. How she ever got any rights back is beyond me. I only thank God they weren't in the vehicle with her.
My heart breaks for this woman and her family. Sounds like they didn't even know each other either and had just met at the bar. I'm not fully sure why she wasn't still in jail for her other charges, especially the child neglect.
This could have been avoided had the system worked the way its supposed to... had someone given her the proper punishment for her actions... a life could have been saved.
I can only hope these charges stick.. and that the family of the passenger can somehow find some peace.

(5,913 posts)The liability has to then go to the booze providers. I know many drink and don't kill but enough do. First dui, two years of being banned from legally drinking, second offence 5 years banned from legally drinking.

(76,703 posts)If they're adults, their friends could buy for them, even if we "tagged" their license.
And, if they go to a store that only cards the obviously young, even tagging wouldn't work. Nobody checking the ID.
I get your sentiment, but not seeinh how it could be enforced.

(5,913 posts)Some percent of drinkers can't handle their booze. Make being able to drink a sort of honor. Yes they might still drink, but then they add a crime to their actions and can get sent to longer term custody sooner.

(76,703 posts)It feels far less simple than you suggest.
I barely drink. How would a liquor store owner that I'm not one if the problems? Digitally track everybody's purchase of alcohol?
No thanks. I buy bourbon to add flavor to chili. I but tequila to flavor taco meat. I buy wine to cook with.
I don't even drink it. My purchases are the government's business? I think not.
