I have two toes on my right foot that have black tips. I couldn't get in to see my doctor. I went to an emergicare and they sent me to the ER. They said be prepared I could lose parts of the BIG and second toes. After sitting in the waiting room a couple hours I got to see the ER doctor. I have clots. But I have good circulation. He is sending me to a vascular surgeon. He thinks I will keep the toes intact. I'm sorry I worried everybody.
Note that an in-law lost two toes to diabetes about four months ago. Original post below.

Looks like I will lose parts of 2 toes. Diabetes. I'm going offline for a while.

(4,002 posts)Diabetes is a nightmare. I'm on Jardiance and Glipizide and Metformin for years and couldn't get my A1C down. Had to quit Metformin because off all the GI side effects.
Went on Ozempic about six months ago and I'm down from 10 last year to 6.9 a few months ago. They were talking insulin before that. It's been a miracle drug.
I had a couple years where I took celebrrex for peripheral neuropathy. I still have issues. Having worked in hospitals I'd read charts where patients had diabetes related surgeries. They always scared me.
I really hope you do OK.

(176 posts)My doctor at the VA prescribed Ozempic for me about 6 months ago, I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes in 2013. My A1C was nearly always in the 8 point something range, and she was talking insulin. Three months ago my A1C was 7.2 and I had labs done before a doctor's appointment this morning - my A1C is now 5.8! Plus I'm losing weight like crazy.
NowISeetheLight
(4,002 posts)I'm 100% with VA so they're my primary healthcare. They had a diabetic pharmacist doctor PharmD start handling my meds. She's been awesome and it's really helped. Ozempic has been a game changer. Every month the Styrofoam cooler shows up at my door with the injector pen.

And, you might keep in mind that Deion Sanders (Coach Prime) had two toes amputated just a few weeks back (his problem was blood clots) and is obviously feeling well enough to be the talk of the NCAA football world albeit "running" a bit slower than his players--as one might surely expect

In June I was in the hospital, not able to breathe. They found low sodium. Pumped me full of sodium, within 3 days I was getting better, dismissed after 7 days. On medication to heal my heard.
Clean EKG last week. Cardiologist.told me to drink more fruit juices than water, eat plenty of salt. He would see me in a year! I still go to FAMILY Doctor.
So glad you are much better, too.

My brother had circulation problems and lost his right leg above his knee. it's been determined that the lack of circulation is due to agent orange exposure.

(13,747 posts)The traumatic experience began a few weeks after Sanders underwent routine surgery in September to fix a dislocated toe and inflamed nerve. A few weeks after the surgery, his big left toe and second toe started turning black.
Sports tidbit; Dion Sanders the only pro athlete to hit a MLB home run and score a NFL touch down in the same week.
Heal fast and be well.

(10,909 posts)If something changes, you get on it immediately.
My buddy in Florida just buried his wonderful (diabetic) wife. Black toes turned into sepsis and killed her.
She resisted treatment due to onset of some dementia. The delay was fatal.
Sorry for the harsh words. The wound of the ordeal is still fresh.
I do not care to see anyone else go through it.
