Hey MSNBC and CNN: go ahead and interview cheato. But ask him REAL questions. He definitely is newsworthy, but only if there is pushback. Otherwise, it's a campaign rally, and you are normalizing him.
There is no public official, let alone ex-President, with his history of lying. If you don't factor this into your questions and follow up, you are not doing journalism. You are doing public relations.
If you don't even ask this convicted sexual abuser about his record on this subject, you are disrespecting women. MSNBC, I am positive, has a majority of female viewers. How would they like it if they stopped watching?
Welker is being trashed on twitter, so I hope word is getting out not to watch this @##show. watching her eyes twinkle and her giddy smile as she discussed the interview made her look starstruck. Pathetic, and not journalism.
I have read comments on DU that he should be interviewed. Yes, he should be. By a real journalist.

(25,527 posts)I'm getting really depressed that the "liberal" media seems to have learned nothing abut covering this creature since 2015.

(7,880 posts)Every "journalist" should watch this over and over as a master-class in how to interview this type of subject.

(12,412 posts)So far, all we've seen is a few teaser clips. Personally from what I saw, trump didn't help himself. Think I'll wait until full interview is broadcast before making a judgement on Welker.

(8,958 posts)then the network should run a crawler... the interview is not live..it's pre-recorded and the network has been throwing out teasers and those teasers are lies, so why not a fact-checking crawler while Trump is vomiting his bullshit instead of post interview...it's obvious Welker (like Chuck Todd) is big on access but not big on journalistic integrity... that she gave him a forum to spew his crap says it all...

would be interesting.

(73,943 posts)im not usually a fwn, cuz he just beats up everyone whether they deserve it or not.
but his beat down of ramasmarmy was a thing of beauty.

(26,401 posts)rolls it over totally to another topic. I've seen enough of his stupid press conferences or whatever you want to call them, and they are so full of crap. Let him pay for his own 30 minute advertisement, all one is doing is giving him free exposure so he doesn't have to pay for it.
And I want real, down to earth, fair, and serious questions, nothing less. Is there anyone out there that can do this?
senseandsensibility
(25,527 posts)but it's not in the corporate media's interest to let them interview republicans. Also, I don't think that cheato would ever agree to sit down with any of them. So, that being the case, ignore him. This kind of "interview" is not worth it. You're right that he should pay for his own PR.

Remember what she did to Rand Paul?

(13,561 posts)Every person in the media knows that he has nothing original, interesting, or relevant to governing to say. Every television opportunity they give him is part of his campaign because he will just air his lies and grievances over and over. They are all facilitating disinformation campaigns in their race to the bottom of responsible journalism.

(42,660 posts)I've been aware of "Press the Meat" for decades. Never watched it on purpose. Both sides of the street are hardly ever as equal as this particular "journalistic endeavor" has ever-increasingly portrayed it. I'll bet Sunday's installment will be a sumptuous salad of Trump lobs and Hunter Biden shots.
But I won't have to watch it to find out.
