I just got a text from the post office stating that a package I ordered could not be delivered because my mailing address is not clear.
They supplied me with a link that prompts me to enter my name, mailing address, etc.
It also says it will require credit card info as I need to pay for redelivery attempt.
I know the post office has been radicalized under DeJoy, but this has never happened to me before. And because of DeJoy, this doesn't seem that far fetched to me.
I tried to call my post office but no answer.
Will try to call them again tomorrow.

Smart people fall for these types of scams too. You were right (smart) to question it.

(884 posts)I got a similar text today from USPS about an undeliverable package. This has happened to me more than once. Its a scam.

(3,650 posts)I guarantee you that link is not from the post office, no matter how official the scammers have made it look.
Contact the USPS directly (at their published number) or visit your local Post Office and ask them if they had anything to do with this (they will confirm this isn't from them).
Never follow links like this in "alert" emails, legit sources do not use them -- it's 100% a scammer tactic.
Stay safe out there!

(27,248 posts)Never give out your credit card number unless you initiate the transaction yourself. When I I political calls asking for money I tell them to send me a pledge card and I will mail a check.

UPS & PO will NEVER text you. They really dont seem to care if you ever get your package. My bank also has on its website - We will NEVER text you.
My friend yesterday got a text
supposedly from Counter Intelligence saying they wanted to get info on her renter from her. Another scam going around.
You know the scam where they have your grandkids name and make believe they are him needing money to get out of jail in Mexico or whatever. Ive had that scam 4 times but a few weeks ago the first sentence was my actual grandkids voice but then continued in another voice.

(3,093 posts)ANYONE who calls or emails you asking for money is a scammer.
Never send money to anyone except through the normal processes where you get an invoice/statement and are EXPECTING the bill.
You are taking the correct steps in calling a KNOWN phone number first, and you would probably eventually come to the conclusion that this is indeed a scam. Never call the numbers provided to you in an email or cold calls, those are part of the scam. Look it up yourself in the phone book or legitimate literature from the institution. The first obvious red flag is that you are not expecting an unknown package.
I seriously wish I could get my hands around the necks of these scamming bastards. I don't generally hate people, but these guys are lower than the lowest, stealing from the vulnerable, and that really sets me off.
