Former President Donald Trump on Friday suggested that people need identification to purchase groceries, repeating a wild claim hes pushed in the past.
You have voter ID to buy a loaf of bread. You have ID to buy a loaf of bread, he said at a summit of the Concerned Women for America, a conservative group, in Washington, D.C.

Trump has made similar assertions over the years. During a 2018 rally, he stated that you need a picture on a card, you need ID, to buy groceries. Months later, he suggested that theres an ID requirement for cereal purchases.
In 2019, the former president received pushback for another supermarket-related claim when he said grocery stores would work along with federal employees amid a government shutdown.

(3,213 posts)...when he was running for re-election against Clinton. There was some sort of media event at a supermarket; Bush was rather perplexed by the bar-code scanner, and apparently had never seen one before, which meant that he likely had not spent any time in a supermarket since at least the late '70s. When that story hit the news, it didn't do wonders to reduce Bush's so-called "wimp factor".
