Democrats Brace For The Biggest Abortion Supreme Court Case Since Dobbs

Democrats Brace For The Biggest Abortion Supreme Court Case Since Dobbs

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/democrats-abortion-supreme-court-dobbs

By Kate Riga September 16, 2023 8:26 a.m.

It’s very likely that the Supreme Court will take up a major mifepristone case this term after the Biden administration and a manufacturer of the drug asked the justices to hear it late last week.

The case infamously originated in Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk’s Amarillo courtroom, where he ruled to revoke the Food and Drug Administration’s authorization of mifepristone wholesale. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals later narrowed that ruling, but would reimpose onerous and unnecessary restrictions on the drug’s accessibility that the FDA lifted in 2016 and 2021. The Supreme Court stayed those rulings.

If the Court takes it up, as expected, it’ll be the biggest abortion case since Dobbs, with nationwide implications.

“The stakes are enormous,” Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), a longtime champion of mifepristone, told TPM.

That’s for dual reasons. Amid the current abortion landscape, prescribing mifepristone (usually in conjunction with the much less restricted misoprostol) via telehealth and delivering it by mail — procedures that would be banned under the Fifth Circuit’s decision — have proved a lifeline for women living under anti-abortion regimes.

............................
“This is a threat to abortion access for the entire country,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) told TPM. “And a reminder that when the Supreme Court rolled back Roe v. Wade, it didn’t just affect people living in red states, or even purple states.”............

for the current loss of women's reproductive freedom, bodily autonomy, and the reduction of women to the role of primarily bearers of men's children.

2016 was not so long ago, and it is the reason for the current make up of the Supreme Court.

Because they are comfortably situated and don't understand governance.
They believe that populists that talk a great game can just wave a magic wand and get policies they like enacted without any pushback from the real world.
Like most radicals, they don't understand that just throwing out existing systems instead of changing from within always ends up with some form of totalitarian dictatorship.
History may not exactly repeat, but it tends to circle, returning to similar views throughout time

Who called voting for Biden, "eating an sh** sandwich." Cornell West is the loudmouth who can never be satisfied with what Dems do. I'm sure you know about Susan Sarandon. I don't know what's up with Sirota for sure, but I suspect they're all loudmouthed ultra liberals who would rather have Trump back in office than vote for Biden.

I'm getting real sick of these obtuse headlines. As if stripping American women of our rights and bodily autonomy is simply a partisan issue, and not a life or death concern!

I do realize however that the MAGAts making these "laws" will never have to abide by them.

Sarah Sanders just passed a law saying she doesn't have to publicly report whatever BS she's pulling while cosplaying governor.

I swear these assholes do NOTHING but fight for their right to hurt others. WTAF.

I'm so tired today.

... is the knowledge of the massive political shitstorm that would result in banning it. Do they want to add fuel to the fire that Dobbs started, or are they going to try and dampen the flames a bit.

One way or the other, this decision will be 100% political, and not based in the facts of the situation at all.

I fear the USSC will federally prohibit abortion medically and otherwise. No abortion in any state for any reason. And the only way to reverse that decision would be a new panel on The Court or a constitutional amendment -- and good luck with either.

"Brace"? THEY NEED TO CAMPAIGN ON THIS AND USE THE WORD 'FREEDOM'. A *LOT*.

People need to get off their dead butts and VOTE for Democrats who will enshrine women's full healthcare rights, including safe abortion, into Federal law.

Let that shitpile of a court "brace" for THAT.

Danco Labs, which originally made mifepristone under the brand name Mifeprex, is located in Manhattan, NY.

Now it is also made by GenBioPro in a generic form since 2019.

It is also known by the name RU-486 (remember that name?)

Wonder what the world would be like if smallpox, polio, diptheria, cholera, etc. were running rampant again.

Of course some of them have bought bunkers in New Zealand and elsewhere for when the world turns into an Oryx and Crake dystopia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oryx_and_Crake). I don't think it will turn out very well for these filthy-rich survivalists either. The global warming that they have pushed will get to them eventually.

That puts things more in limbo than they already are. Illegitimate courts make illegitimate rulings. If they come up with some word salad to ban mifepristone, fucking repubes will never win an election of consequence for the next 2 decades. SCROTUS can also expect to be packed. They have already gone too far. With rulings and their own horseshit personal behavior.
