From the Colorado Sun, Mike Littwin:
Do we know who Lauren Boebert is? Do you really have to ask?
My favorite parts:
The New York Times called it touching and carrying on. The New York Daily News called it groping. I wonder how the drag queens she likes to demonize would describe it. You think they might call it grooming?
For our purposes, we can just call her night at the theater a series of crimes against ordinary human behavior...
...Lets face it, if someone had asked you which Colorado politician had been kicked out of a touring Broadway musical in Denver for vaping, talking, singing, fondling, recording the show on her not-so-smartphone, taking selfies with a flash, flipping off a theater employee, insulting a theater patron and then lying about the extent of her obnoxious conduct, would you need more than one guess?
Of course not. This is so Boebert that its, well, Boebertian. As I was headed to a show the other night, I told my companion we wanted to be sure not to be Boeberted. A dictionary entry surely awaits as does, almost certainly, more rounds of, uh, qualifying behavior.
As you might have noticed, the online jokes not all of them tasteful or, for that matter, funny are everywhere. There are even more serious comments, at least one of which suggests Boeberts in-theater behavior reflects a general decline in societal norms. Im more inclined to see it as a general decline in MAGA-aligned congresspeople norms...
I'm enjoying the pile on.

(2,403 posts)I'm sure Ms. Boebert and friend were guilty of numerous low (wink ...wink) crimes. As far as that goes, who cares? Those two aren't worth wasting the public's money by arresting them. That's not the point. The point is that public assholery such as that, victimizes everyone involved including us third party voyeurs. The rest of the audience went to the theater to relax and enjoy a play. The Boebertery ruined the evening for all. She displays zero respect for any of the people that she encounters.
We expect gross behavior from five year olds. Most will outgrow such behavior. We absolutely have the right to expect that our Congress people live up to the highest standards of civility.

(114,615 posts)and since she was annoying the hell out of other paying patrons, bouncing her out of the theater was the appropriate thing to do.
This sort of thing has been going on since Limbaugh went national with his radio show. Most of us stopped inviting Republicans over because we were tired of having them yell Limbaugh quotes, shouting down normal conversations, and being pains in the butt. The behavior has just continued to deteriorate, being as offensive as possible "to make libruls cry" is their duty.
I'm cheered by the fact that the other theater patrons knew how to act.

(29,634 posts)It's a big topic in the theatre world. Not just phones, but talking and singing along (and I guess, now, vaping and groping). The last show I went to ("Six" ) the youngish audience screamed through portions of the songs as if they were at a Taylor Swift concert.
Does it surprise me that Boebert epitomizes this? Nope.

(38,049 posts)...but the NJ theaters I frequent, the McCarter, the NJ State Theater, and Bucks County (PA) generally have audiences that behave well.
I can't say I've ever seen anything like Bobo ever in a theater.
