Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsLet this sink in. In AMERICA, women are being denied health care. In America,
ONLY women can be sent to prison for acquiring health care. It truly boggles the mind that we live in a country that will incarcerate a person for being female and wanting health care.
And even worse, AMERICANS will continue to vote for those who enact these INSANE laws. GOTV people.
Yes, I know providers can be male and that they too can be jailed for providing health care. You get my point.

(55,129 posts)That way I have less disappointment. I always ask, are they right? Do they know what they're doing? As long as they dish standard care they can hardly be sued. You may have something that requires something different, or something they miss, but they're covered.
I get more useful information online with symptom search than from doctors.

Some doctors are jerks who don't want to communicate with you. Been there, done that
But most of them will listen to what you're describing, and are willing to answer questions. Even though you believe otherwise, they definitely know more about medicine than you or WebMD ever will.
Really.

It's that simple. Denying healthcare to livestock isn't so shocking. Denying healthcare to humans--well, that is rather heinous and unacceptable.
as allies in the new anti-slavery movement. Women are not 3/5ths human, they are 100% human and have rights that we all must defend, with blood if need be. this is about HUMAN RIGHTS! I will kill for my daughters rights and my granddaughters rights and the rights of 50% of our species. FUCK GQP!!! BTW, forced birth requires forced male sterilization as a response. I have had a vasectomy since my late youth and my departed wife always told me it was the nicest thing I ever did for us. I miss her and know she wants us all to fight for her sisters here on Earth.

Women still live in a patriarchy.

(3,363 posts)It all comes back to the (Grand Old) Patriarchy. Women and girls are nothing more than breeder cows who need to be regulated. Their idea of a perfect world is a cross between Handmaid's Tale and the Stepford Wives.

Not women.
That will be the next Republican platform. UGGGH.
I can't even express how much my heart broke over Afghanistan. Which was worse - never having any freedom for women before or having a brief 20-year window to have it all taken away??? 💔

Yes the GOP is taking us back, way back.
When women are forced to have many children, they are stuck at home.
Can't go to school, hold down a well paying job, etc.
Stuck in bad marriages.

(3,363 posts)In this country, we can't even pass the Violence Against Women Act. In 2016, a candidate for the presidency was heard on a leaked tape bragging about grabbing women between the legs. In 2023, that same creature was found civilly liable of sexual abuse. That's the Grand Old Patriarchy in a nutshell. They did not rebuke or shun him. They hate women and girls! Full stop.
It was hard for me to really grasp any of this before 2015. That...creature descended down that escalator in June. In October of that year, I was sexually assaulted by a man who I had thought was my friend. Through it all, that creature was rising up the political ranks. I will never feel safe again.

More will come out, some we will never know because it is classified.
But it will only get worse if the GOP continues on this dangerous path.
I am sorry about the SA by a "friend." A betrayal beyond words.
Hopefully have gotten some help to deal with it.

It's so infuriating!!!!!
Too many men still, as well as some women thinking this way.
Women wanting to be mother's whether by their own pregnancy, birth, or by adoption that's one (wonderful) thing. But forcing women?!

(13,474 posts)I did not realize until reading an article in The Guardian this morning that several states have already passed these laws, mostly the backward Southern states. These laws can be used against women for any miscarriage, natural or not, or taking drugs prescribed by a doctor, or even an accidental fall that causes a miscarriage. They have already been used to lock women away, and theyre used primarily against poor women who cannot afford attorneys and most likely black women given the states that have enacted such laws. Fetal personhood laws mean that the fetus takes precedence over the womans rights. She has none, the fetus has all.
I do not understand why US media is ignoring these laws. I find out more about what is happening in the US from a British publication than in US media. This whole article is well worth reading.
Those laws are part of whats known as the fetal personhood movement, a push to legally redefine fetuses as people, with all the rights and protections such a definition entails. The idea that fetuses are people is at the core of anti-abortion logic, but it also has the potential to rewrite wide swathes of US law. Georgias six-week abortion ban, for example, allows people to claim fetuses as dependents when they file their state taxes.
If fetuses count as people, then their rights can compete with or even outstrip those of women carrying them. At least 11 states have added fetal personhood into their state constitutions or laws, while another five states have added fetal personhood specifically into their criminal codes, the Pregnancy Justice report found. Thirty-eight states have fetal homicide laws on the books, which make it a separate crime to cause a pregnancy loss.

Sure.

It's women they want to control.

(75 posts)Justice Brandeis established that privacy is an unenumerated right because without privacy the other rights do not exist. This SCOTUS denies the right of privacy to women because they cant find the word privacy in the constitution. They are liars because they recognize unenumerated rights when it suits them to.

(75 posts)Ninth amendment recognizes unenumerated rights. Accepted unenumerated rights include right to travel, right to dignity, right to privacy. The liars on the court deny the basic right of privacy to women now. Lying liars who should be stripped of their appointments for tax evasion due to not reporting the largess bestowed upon them by Harlan Crow.

Gender affirming care denial is affecting all sexes and genders.
