(2,227 posts)i completely agree with you Get rid of that school administration....
All this has blown up over the past year with schools and banned books/discussions. As a recently retired high school history teacher it infuriates me to no end that I would have to limit my Holocaust classes to abandon Anne Frank and the 1619 project. I have 2-3 copies of her diary in my classroom and the entire set of the MAUS graphic novels for my kids that want more information and exposure to the Holocaust,1619 Project, Reconstruction, Indian Normal Schools, Internment of Japanese Americans during WWII articles etc....

(7,046 posts)Made my regular monthly contribution to Beto's gubernatorial campaign generic to the Texas Democratic Party after the election was over.
Whenever we see something like this, let it be a prompt to chip in what you can to Democrats in another state who can put it to good use. Democrats are getting close to getting Texas back. I'm willing to help them do that, from Illinois.

(5,960 posts)It went un-corrected.
There is, however, in Texas, a large number of Democrats and we are currently fighting gerrymandering to get back some seats.
To give up on an entire state and suggest as this thread has to just 'cut Texas off' is sickening.
That is how I feel and I feel it strongly.

(41,634 posts)There's no reason to make a graphic adaptation of The Diary of Anne Frank.
This book is perfectly legible and understandable the way it was originally published - in words only with no comics added.

(29,369 posts)Including this book, The Handmaid's Tale, etc. This is not a "comic book," it is a graphic novel.
Your issue with it seems really unusual to me. No reason for the criticism at all.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...maybe we should support and assist with a well-implemented secession of some these states? I mean, at this point, why not?

I actually can't believe some of you are Democrats.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...and I am wrong when I start seeing entire states to be as bad as the worst residents of them.
We ALL need to stand up against this kind of crap wherever we see it. In cases like this one, it's a responsibilty that each of us holds to protect any child we see being misled and yes, indoctrinated, into a just-plain-wrong mindset, and to protect those of us who are caring enough to teach those children well.
My apologies to you, cayugafalls, and to all the good people of Texas.

(114,615 posts)These fucking book banners have gone WAY too far. They ARE the Nazis and if they're not stopped, no one else will be safe, ever. We know how it goes, they start with the books and progress to groups of people.
I'm sick of having good, committed, UNDERPAID professional people like librarians and teachers being harassed by the stupidest, narrowest,, most illiterate prude in a state.

(27,749 posts)education ever since WWII. But we gotta consider the tender feelings of the fascists among us who might cry if someone reminds them of the evils of fascism. Or the fact that Anne Frank was a girl dealing with becoming a woman at the same time she was in mortal peril of being discovered by Nazis and sent to a death camp.

(2,353 posts)"A Texas middle school teacher has been fired after assigning an unapproved illustrated version of Anne Frank's Diary to her eighth grade reading class. Per a report from KFDM, a spokesperson for Hamshire-Fannett ISD, located south of Beaumont, released a statement confirming the teacher was sent home on Wednesday after reading a passage from Anne Frank's Diary: The Graphic Adaptation in which Frank wrote about male and female genitalia."
