Koch has raised more than $70 million to oppose Trump in the Republican presidential primary.

Somewhat ironic in a sense.

(60,170 posts)Namely, that the Republican nominee next year will not be named Trump, Haley, Pence, Scott, or DeSantis. I think the only way any of them become the nominee is if serious Republican money cedes the election to Joe Biden. THAT is how any of those five get the nomination. As long as guys like Koch are still willing to throw dozens of millions into the race, it means they think they have a ghost of a chance of taking the White House away from Joe Biden, and that isn't going to happen with any of the above-named crowd.

(1,321 posts)But all the average GOP voters do. The lunatics took over the asylum several years ago, the bigwigs just haven't accepted it yet. There's noting folks like Koch can do, try as they might.

(60,170 posts)If Fox and National Hate Radio say to drop Trump, it won't take long for most of them to do just that. They let their media think for them, so they won't have to.
Fox tried to drop him more than once, but when their viewers revolted, they took him back. Even before that, Fox was briefly onboard with immigration reform, until the Tea Party revolted and then Fox changed their tune. People make the mistake in thinking Fox molds GOP voters. Far more often they just give them what they want to hear.

(5,904 posts)His hardcore base is now out side of both reason and the typical national media. That support isn't enough by itself, but one thing both Traitor45 and the GOP know is keep the story simple. They are going to show migrant crime however rare in a 'Willie Horton' throwback, regardless of the GOP hobbling any way Biden could've mitigated the situation. I already heard a life long New Yorker claiming to me that there are migrants in every corner above 23rd Street ready to brandish a knife to rob and that isn't enough to stay in custody. This is not happening beyond the typical few muggings over a huge city. I live in this so called zone and that isn't happening, maybe one or two plants to create a fake story. So that narrative and any 'october surprise' next year are risks to us all.

(221 posts)Since he has a net worth in excess of 50 Billion; 70 million is nothing to him although they hate to pay $1 dollar in taxes that might be used to help somebody else. Trump signed a tax bill that McConnell had ready before he was even elected which saved billionaires like the Koch a lot of tax money. After that they had no more use for him than he does for the suckers who send him their hard earned money.

(385 posts)is scum, but he is not a very stupid, awkward, and highly overrated globalist. tRumpo wishes he had the power and actual wealth that Kochs built and now is being used to step on the twice impeached, indicted orangefaced cockroach Loser45. The guy with actual SHIT for brains. So glad to read that Koch and I have some common ground. MUCH more than any human has with Loser.

(7,786 posts)my great-grandfather had a hate affair with old man Koch. He ran a barber shop and didn't care if someone walked out during one of his "rants" again the Kochs. Grandma said he could have made more money if he'd kept his mouth shut, but not my great-grandpa! A follower of the Guthries, he railed up one side and down the other against the insanely rich in general, and the Kochs in particular.
I was quite pleased when my Mom told me all this. Finally, my intense sense of moral justice and my involvement in politics finally made sense. I was the only one in my generation to pick up his baton.
I guess I must have been listening in a corner during some of his rants (gryn).

(6,365 posts)clue who the Koch family is and how they have adversely influenced our society. I just watched a 30 minute Youtube piece by Mehti Hassan (sp?) comparing the the fictional character of Logan Roy in Succession to Rupert Murdoch. Like the Kochs, Murdoch inherited a media business and turned it into a monstrous political propaganda organization responsible for causing some of the worst events in our lifetime. Murdoch, imo, has done more damage to the world than anyone alive today on multiple continents. Your great-grandpa was right, these merchants of hate, death, and division need to be called out, identified, and held responsible for all the damage they have caused our world.

The organizations LIBRE initiative even campaigns in favor of amnesty for illegal migrants.
The co-option of the Tea Party movement was spearheaded by the Kochs, who turned it from a citizen-led organization into a pro-corporate, libertarian shell, before dumping it when press attention became too inconvenient.
The globalist Koch Brothers, who have become a total joke in real Republican circles, are against Strong Borders and Powerful Trade, Trump tweeted in 2018. I never sought their support because I dont need their money or bad ideas.
