... Powell was charged with racketeering, conspiracy to commit election fraud, conspiracy to commit computer theft, trespass and invasion of privacy, and conspiracy to defraud the state.
Her legal team filed a motion on Friday to dismiss the racketeering charges, and in the motion was buried this gem of a footnote: Ms. Powells longstanding trusted traveler status has been revoked by TSA for her criminal historyin addition to other problems created by this wrongful indictment.
Its not clear ... if Powell is complaining about losing her status with PreCheck, Global Entry, or Clearbut ... her priority upon facing racketeering charges is her experience with the TSA ...

(883 posts)Needs to end. Everyone should have to go through security exactly the same way. This pay extra for more rights needs to end.

(96,882 posts)Trusted Traveller applicants have gone through a background check which indicates they're a lower security risk and thus can be check with a lower level of scrutiny. I'm happy with the program.

(60,186 posts)The huge long lines at the bigger airports are a challenge to older/handicapped travelers. If a passenger has gone through the vetting, let them go through quicker. Its not always about money. That obsession is more the Republicans domain.

(883 posts)That is it. At anytime one of those trusted travelers could turn out not to be. Tired of paying extra for extra rights.

(60,186 posts)Im rarely in the States, but I got myself TSA PRE anyway because when I am there, I fly, since its too far to take a train between Dallas and Washington or Boston. Im 71 and have heart issues. If I have to pay some money to be able to take the fast lane, thats my decision. You might as well dis the one million people in New York City who decide to pay for a taxi. Dont do it in the presence of a New York taxi driver, though. They tend to defend their livelihood somewhat vigorously.
To skip lines in front of other people it is paid for extra rights. Paying for rights is wrong. The security checks are mandatory by the government. No one should get extra privileges because they have money.

If you think that is alright are you sure you are a democrat. Republicans want paid for rights. This isn't any different than the poll taxes. This is definitely a class system and needs to be abolished.

The partisan angle is a pretty strange one, but is something that seems to exist only in your head.
It is plainly laughable to attempt to call PreCheck a Republican program, or insinuate those who use it are not real Democrats. Im sure a considerable portion of DUers who frequently travel are participants.
Hate to be the one to break it you, but its not going to be abolished, so this whole discussion is rather meaningless.

(96,943 posts)Truthfully, she probably views her charges as an inconvenience, as well as going to trial, and having to deal with all the other aspects of being the defendant in a criminal case.
As if everyone is wasting her time. 'Course, she wouldn't be the only one in that crowd that thinks that way.
