In another display of cognitive impairment, Donald Trump appeared to confuse Jeb Bush with George Bush, suggesting either that he ran against George Bush in the primary of the 2016 election or that Jeb Bush deployed troops in the Middle East.
Trump: "We came down here. You know, the beauty was when I came here. Everyone thought Bush was going to win. And then they took a poll and found out Trump was up by about 50 points. Everyone said, 'What's going on right here?' They thought Bush, because Bush supposedly was a military person. Great. You know what he was? He got us into the... He got us into the Middle East. How did that work out, right? But they all thought that Bush might win. Jeb, remember Jeb?"
This isnt the first time Trump has displayed concerning signs regarding his mental fitness. During a recent speech in Washington D.C., Trump appeared confused when he suggested he was leading former President Barack Obama in the polls. In the same video, Trump appeared to struggle while trying to remember he ran against Hillary Clinton in 2016.

(72,187 posts)Everyone who is not as paralyzingly stupid as he is knows that he has the cognitive ability of a flatworm.
I'm perfectly fine with mainstream media concern-trolling Trump instead of Biden for a change. But let's not pretend that Trump having an intellectual capacity that would make Australopithecus look like Albert Einstein is any kind of 'news'.

(29,406 posts)I have likened him to a tapeworm - a revolting-to-look-at parasite that sucks the life out of any creature it infects.
I chose that rather than pig, weasel or rat (etc) so as not to demean pigs, weasels and rats.

(9,148 posts)Trump has the cognitive ability of a worm that has been flattened...by a steam roller. A worm that is not just stunned. A worm that is not just pining for the fjords.
In other words, he's as smart as a dead worm...a worm that has passed on...a worm that is no more...a worm that has ceased to be...a worm that has expired and gone to meet its maker.

(69,364 posts)As a narcissist, it doesn't occur to him that he'll even need a defense. He can't imagine being convicted.
Second, while he exhibits a sort of feral craftiness, he's not capable of sustained strategic planning. He does what others tell him to. These mental glitches are the tell-tale effects of medical issues. Trump is declining, despite his handlers' best efforts.
One day more of this will come out, and the MSM will gasp and wring their hands and say "it was so much worse than we knew!!!"

(22,583 posts)A diminished capacity defense would mean admitting that he is not the perfect, infallible, superior being that his malignant narcissism requires him to see himself as. I don't think he's capable of of such an admission, true or otherwise, much less deliberately messing up in public.
His entire life has been built around the idea that he is better, smarter, and more powerful than anyone else, ever. His self concept is a house of cards with that belief as its flimsy foundation. He desperately needs to "win" at whatever he does, so much so that he was willing to overthrow the US government rather than face the embarrassment of admitting that he had lost an election. Going before a judge and admitting that he is fallible, much less defective in any way, would be as unthinkable to him as going to prison.
I believe that any failings he demonstrates in his public appearance are 100% real. Whether these incidents are signs of genuine cognitive deterioration or simply the the result of stress is for doctors to decide.

(34,914 posts)Dementia J. Trump also claimed that, among other things, "Biden is going to get us into World War 2." Joe's a time traveler? Who knew? Trump has been making these kinds of cognitively-impaired statements for years, and nobody has said peep about them, other than a few left-leaning podcasters, like Bob Cesca and Hal Sparks, who both have extensive collections of recordings of Trump's incoherent blathering.

(5,101 posts)I think he's just never given a rat's ass for facts, fact-checking, or speech preparation, and this is just another example of that. My mother has dementia, and I've seen an incredible amount of deterioration in her since 2019. Based on what she's gone through, I just can't justify saying that Trump is losing a considerable amount of ground.
I think he has never really had to monitor his babble and has no idea when he starts a sentence how it will end. He just puts it out there with authority - reality be damned - and moves on. His followers remember his strongman confidence, not the alternative facts.
Wishing you and your mom well, Dawg. Went through that with both of my folks.
