(11,780 posts)His ego is too great for him to admit it, even as a ploy to escape justice.

(4,741 posts)He knows what reality is. He just doesn't like when it goes against him, so he does stupid things so that he seems to be the winner coming out on top.
He wouldn't be saying and doing all these stupid things if he wasn't having a hissy fit about looking bad.
Think. Again.

(4,741 posts)I mentioned in another thread what it's like to live with a narcissist, how they absolutely cannot stand losing to anything or anyone. They will say anything to try to twist the narrative so that they're the winner/hero. They'll make up crap on the spot if they feel threatened with losing--or if they actually do lose. They don't care if it's true or not. They don't care if it's relevant or not. Or if it's cruel or not. It's an injury to their egos when you show them to be wrong about something. So they don't sulk about or resort to self-pity--they lash out, and they don't care about anything except winning in that moment, by any means necessary.
They'll say it, if they think it will put them back on top.
I mentioned how my own narcissist mum does this. I can't even count the number of times I've torn apart idiotic assertions she's made, and she invariably comes back with some vicious thing to tear me down rather than admitting she was wrong. And I'm not kidding about vicious. Things like, oh, "You think you're so smart? Well, you're fat and ugly, so you're obviously too stupid to know what you're talking about."
She really says crap like this when she's losing an argument, because she hates losing that much. She cannot bear it if anyone sees her as not being smarter and better than everyone else--at everything. Even her own children are fair game to tear down if they don't treat her like an Omnipotent, Omniscient goddess uber alles.
And yes, that's a big reason why I refuse to live closer to her than 300 miles. I'm actively suicidal if I don't.

(62,613 posts)There are no operational offshore wind farms near South Carolina.
He's trying to blame whale deaths caused by ship strikes
on not-yet running wind farms or wind firm construction.
Other politicians have done this, but Dump is dialing it to 11.

(5,410 posts)over a lawsuit somewhere in Europe that he lost over windmills being installed on the waterfront, in front of one of his golf courses---
(he sued because he thought it would 'spoil the view', but he LOST--- think maybe it was opposing attorney fees that have been assigned to him)---
think the relevant post was on DailyKos, sorry I have no more details than that---
but it very possibly could have something to do with his anger about windmills!
DemocraticPatriot
(5,410 posts)which most of us cannot comprehend because we are not up-to-date on his many legal and business affairs)....
In this particular instance, it boils down to money, legal fees, and "winning or losing"--
LOSING, in this instance!
So he goes to war against the windmills which made him LOSE,
and makes up 'facts' to attack them!
Yeah, he has problems, but the windmills thing seems not so far out in left field than we all would have presumed....

Ever since the Scots told him to fuck off about the windmills off the coast of his financial sinkhole money laundering operation there, hes been positively looney toons about windmills.

(17,000 posts)I just recently found out that John Trump reviewed Nikola Telsas documents after Telsa died. Not sure if Tesla was spied upon before his death, as there were Feds stationed at his hotel.
After Telsas death boxes were removed from the Feds, however, there were around 20 boxes unaccounted for. Then it was mentioned Trump had access to the files (I watched the series right after the Maraloco incident) so of course my thoughts are John stole the boxes, it runs in the family.
The History Channel has a 6 part series (I watched them on YouTube) on Tesla. Thats where I saw the info if anyone is interested.

(13,705 posts)I've seen increasingly on FB with a certain segment of my Facebook friends. Sharing of articles about windmills being a danger to whales. Anger about it. It's been increasing over the last year. (The same people who shared anti-vaxx info a couple of years ago.).
From NOAA Fisheries, addressing the conspiracy: https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/new-england-mid-atlantic/marine-life-distress/frequent-questions-offshore-wind-and-whales
Guardian article: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/sep/26/trump-whale-wind-turbine-renewable-energy-misinformation
Department of Energy addressing: https://www.energy.gov/articles/addressing-misinformation-offshore-wind-farms-and-recent-whale-mortalities
and The Sierra Club addressing: https://www.sierraclub.org/new-jersey/blog/2023/01/unfounded-and-premature-correlating-wind-turbine-construction-whale
Leave it to DJT to add juice to and spread another unfounded conspiracy.

(5,754 posts)Construction of offshore wind turbines does cause some disruption and have slight negative impacts on whales. The permitting for them even references it: https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/action/incidental-take-authorization-empire-offshore-wind-llc-construction-empire-wind-project-ew1?check_logged_in=1
However, that impact is trivial compared to other kinds of human activity.
There are legitimate reasons to second guess offshore wind farms (maintenance / longevity, load balancing / grid stability with the varied output, cost) - but this is not one of them.

(4,741 posts)This is merely the narcissistic rage over losing that windmill case in Scotland. Narcissists hate losing more than anything and will do or say anything to tear down anyone or anything that embarrasses them or makes them look like a loser.
He does it all the time to anyone who crosses him or otherwise doesn't treat him like he's the bestest and smartest and most gorgeous and most wonderful being ever.
We only have thousands of examples of him reacting to critics and opponents that way.

(7,799 posts)He's been spouting bollocks about windfarms for many years. This from 2019:
...
The US president mounted a lengthy challenge against plans for an 11-turbine scheme off the Aberdeenshire coast, claiming it would spoil the view from his Balmedie golf course.
...
President Trump has often criticised wind power in his political speeches. Trump has said windmills cause cancer, kill birds and prevent people from watching television when the wind is not blowing.
...
He appealed to the UKs highest court after twice losing fights in Scottish courts, but judges there unanimously dismissed the case.
His wind farm opposition led to him giving evidence at the Scottish Parliament as a witness at a committee inquiry into the Scottish governments renewable energy targets.
Asked to point to evidence wind farms will destroy tourism, Mr Trump said: I am the evidence.
I am an expert in tourism, I am considered a world-class expert in tourism so when you say Where is the evidence? I am the evidence.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/trump-scotland-wind-farm-fight-payout-golf-course-a9201096.html
The court case gained quite a lot of public attention in the UK, little of it favourable to Trump. He was mobbed by those who weren't won over by his arguments when he made his court appearance to give "evidence", despite having paid students £20 to attend an astroturfed protest in his favour, a tactic he's used at various times:
Protesters say they were paid £20 each to turn up outside the Scottish Parliament and wave placards

(4,234 posts)For some years, I thought it was a simply a combination of lack of self-awareness and an act to play into his fan's base desires.
But his repeated and meritless assertions have pretty much become the definition of who he is, an absurd caricature of a cartoon gangster. I can't see him as little more than a grade C, stand-in Bond villain anymore.

(4,741 posts)You'd know exactly what was going on with him if you'd ever had to spend sufficient time with a narcissist. Two kinds exist: your standard narcissist, and the malignant variety.
I lived with both.
And then people wonder why I suffered from suicidal depression until my 30s...
