Donald Trump's thrill ride is nearly over but the media refuses to let go
What if we told America the truth about Donald Trump? He's a fraud, a cheat and a rapist, facing 91 felony counts

(Salon) I take no joy in saying this, but we in the press are moral cowards.
Last Friday, former President Donald Trump called for the execution of U.S. Army Gen. Mark Milley, the outgoing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, branding him a traitor. This was because Milley told his Chinese counterparts, toward the end of the Trump administration, that the U.S. was not planning to invade China and start World War III. In other words, Milley reiterated official U.S. policy since the end of World War II, which Trump is apparently unaware that we won. But forgive him: He also seems to think Jeb Bush was president.
A few days later, our actual president, Joe Biden, made history by standing on a picket line with striking UAW members in Michigan.
We in the press didn't tell you much about that, but we wasted airtime, pixels and ink reporting that Trump calls himself "pro-worker" though there is no evidence of that to be found anywhere. We also told you that Biden wears tennis shoes. We pretty much ignored Trump's threat against the chairman of the Joint Chiefs who Trump himself appointed, by the way. We have also done minimal reporting on the New York judge who imposed the "corporate death penalty" on Trump's business enterprises this week and may end up confiscating Trump's property, after issuing a summary judgment that Trump's companies actively engaged in fraud over many years.
....(snip)....
So busy are we trying to pretend we're even-handed that we present propaganda as fact just to look fair. That's not our job. The moronic desire to be "objective" blinds us from our true mission: providing vetted facts. ............(more)

(38,796 posts)chance he will be re-elected. If Republicans succeed in tanking the economy and keeping gas prices up
we are in deep trouble.

(6,991 posts)Oath Keepers, Proud boys, fake electors, filthy Rudy, Mark Meadows, and the REST will either be heading to jail, or on trial. His puppet-master putin can only help him so much this time around, as he's slowly having his ass kicked by Ukraine. IF, and I say IF Dems, women, the young get out to vote, game over. There are more of us than maggots. How can he steal Michigan? Wisconsin? Pennsylvania? He needs most if not ALL of those swing states to win the presidency. IF, yes IF the same people who got out to murder that BIG, FAKE MAGA RED WAVE this past midterm VOTE, HE'S done. He's probably not going to make it to 2024. You see how unhinged that bastard's becoming? He said that Jeb Bush started the Iraq war, that he ran vs Pres. Obama in 2016, and that he has to stop Biden from starting WWll? Who knew Jeb Started the Iraq War. Pres. Biden makes ONE slip up, and the mostly corporate, greedy for ad dollars to put into their pocket's media goes crazy. Dems are also doing well in off-year elections which has never happened that I can remember.
Trump is weaker among independents than Republicans in primary polls.
That doesnt mean, however, that Trump doesnt have potential vulnerabilities. Primary polling suggests that Trump is not performing as well among Republican-leaning independents and unaffiliated voters who plan to vote in the GOP nomination race as he is among self-identified Republicans. And past Republican presidential primaries have demonstrated that independent voters can make up a significant chunk of the electorate in early voting states and, if their preferences differ markedly from Republicans, can influence outcomes.
To be clear, Trump usually leads among independent voters in primary polls just by smaller margins than he does among self-identified Republicans. In what may be an obvious point, his large advantage among Republicans matters a great deal considering far more Republicans will vote in the GOP contest than independents (or Democrats, for that matter). During the competitive periods of the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Republican presidential primaries, around 70 to 75 percent of primary and caucus voters identified as Republican, according to ABC Newss aggregate exit poll data, while about 20 to 25 percent identified as independent or something else (5 percent or fewer identified as Democrats). But if the Republican race does tighten in the next few months, the preferences of independent voters could matter, particularly in New Hampshire, which has one of the largest blocs of unaffiliated voters of any state in the country.

I don't trust ANY of these corporate news media outfits or 538. But this article is worth a read, because every now and then you do have ONE journalist telling the truth.
How outlier polls happen and what to do with them
Any one poll is subject to error. That's why we have an average.

(8,639 posts)along with the Democratic leadership in each state is to immediately identify in each state the positive impacts of the major economic bills that Joe worked so hard to get passed. Show those projects being built and improvements being made to existing infrastructure. Then all elected Democrats and campaign people should talk about those every single day in every single interview and it should be a cornerstone of the ad campaign. Do it constantly beginning now so that the information gets out there and counters the constant "too old" crap etc. that the media is making the focus of every segment now.

Just to make sure you come back and feed on their brand of 'ohmygoodness, youse gotta worry about this'!
A headline like 'Trump is officially toast, ignore him, no longer relevant, he is a sham, always was' is going to turn customers away in droves.

I'm on here commenting so obviously, me too. I can't drop him until I'm sure he can't hurt America anymore. Yes the media is padding the profits with him but I have no trouble with the keeping the hits coming until there's nothing left of him but the smell.

(15,909 posts)Talking about Trump less isn't going to help.
The media needs to continue to talk about Trump as much or more than it does, but with the courage and honestly and bluntness that isn't possible when the main concern is ratings and the appearance of neutrality.

(7,365 posts)Didn't catch that first time. You are right!
Example from local news. Reporting on Ohio district maps. They said the old map heavily favored "one party". Is it that hard to just SAY it.
They do need to just say it. Republicans cheat.

(35,003 posts)Is so that news organizations can do their fucking jobs. Unfortunately, that's not happening. I don't know what they're teaching in journalism school but it needs to be revamped. An educated, well-informed society is essential for democracy.
