Josh Shapiro is taking his biggest step onto a national stage.
Pennsylvanias Democratic governor has been seen as a potential future presidential candidate since even before he won the states highest office last year. But that speculation is likely to reach a new fever pitch on Saturday when Mr. Shapiro delivers the keynote address at the New Hampshire Democratic Partys annual convention in Manchester.
New Hampshire is a key early-voting state in presidential nominating contests. Along with Iowa, South Carolina, and Nevada, its a place that politicians who aspire to the White House visit early and often even years ahead of any national campaigns to build relationships with party insiders and their political profiles with the wider electorate.
In Pennsylvania, we defeated extremism and showed the rest of the country what it looks like to come together behind a vision for a better future one where we create real opportunity while defending our rights and advancing real freedom for all, Mr. Shapiro said in a statement when his keynote was announced. New Hampshire voters face a similar choice next November they will decide a critical open race for governor and play a central role in reelecting President Biden and retaking the U.S. House of Representatives.

(9,914 posts)Newsom has done great things in California, and he's ready to go toe-to-toe with any of the magats. Shapiro has had to work with a far less left-committed State, and while he's not taken any flack off of the magats, he's had the skill and chops to bring along a whole host of independents, and some fed up conservatives.
I really like Gretchen Whitmer, too! Hell. I love all of our up and coming Dems.

(10,104 posts)There hasnt been a president from Pennsylvania since the second-worst POTUS ever, James Buchanan. If youre ever in the Lancaster area, the James Buchanan house is a good day trip.
