So, 1.03% of the US population is trans, and some hardliner republicans want to possibly shutdown

the government funding if they do not get their way with bans. It's a damn wedge issue. 1.03% of the population. Who really in their right mind gives a fuck. Whatever, it's yet another total WTF!!!

What percentage of the US population is transgender?

About 1.03% of the nation’s adult population identifies as transgender, according to the Household Pulse Survey.[1] This is equivalent to approximately 2.6 million Americans.

Most of the US adult population (97.5%) self-identifies as cisgender.

it's an easy group to pick on. Most people don't know a trans person, or at least they don't know that they do. And that makes it even easier to pick on them, because if you don't know someone it's that much easier to think of them as "other" and "weird" and even morally suspect. I think the real underlying reason for the shutdown is to sow chaos and disfunction so as to demonstrate that government is useless, but having a small, powerless and "other" group of people to blame provides a partial excuse - "We'll do anything we can to keep the government from doing anything to help these weird people we disapprove of!"

Thank you.
I honestly wonder if I'm not too young for this website. It seems many on here really aren't very interested in this topic at all & posts are far & few between despite so much going on across the country with Republicans trying to erase trans people like my child out of existence entirely....

I know this is an issue young voters care deeply about but here it seems not so much sadly.

I am 56 years old and I had a trans roommate in college in the 80s. That is just one of more than a few trans acquaintances and friends I have had in my life since. Plenty of us care very much for trans people and their rights and will vote accordingly. I hate the fact that your child has to live through this. It reminds me of what we gay men endured during the AIDS crisis in the 80s.

We have to VOTE OUT THE GOP, and we have to urge all our family and friends to do the same. That is the only way we will ever get this fixed. I know it's hard, but keep your chin up and keep up the fight! We WILL defeat the GOP! There are more of us than there are of them! You got me on your side for sure!

about the same for LGBTQ+ discrimination so why so many support the people that do is a mystery to me.

But like so many issues - gun safety, racism, white nationalism, anti-semitism, anti-abortion, and on and on...our politics does not represent the majority.

I personally think our present system is a reflection of a Constitutional form of government that was based on fundamental design flaws.

in the past they were telling us about outside forces infiltrating the US, but then again, it is the forces within the US who will pose a threat to law abiding American citizens. These are our own domestic enemies/terrorists.

This is just a general statement. Transgender people need to live peacefully too.

but I'm old, okay... but I DO know more than a couple of trans people. They are my friends. I stand behind them and beside them. They are good people. They are only trying to live their lives to the best of their ability to stay true to who they are inside. They aren't trying to change the world. They only want to live who they are, inside... who they've always been inside, their whole lives. Who are we to deny them this?

Did you know you were male or female from you earliest aware moment? How? Well... so did these people. The only problem, their outside didn't match their inside. It was a cosmic joke of the most horrible kind.

I'm sorry... as far as I'm concerned, my best friend is much more feminine than MTG could ever hope to be. And supposedly, she was BORN female. Of course, I've not seen her birth certificate. At this point, I dare her to prove it to me.
