I was 21 when this happened, had a 800watt amp in my 85 Toyota Celica/Supra with two JL Audio 10's. Pimping Eazy E and Too Short while crusing

A man has been charged with murder in the fatal drive-by shooting of Tupac Shakur, a breakthrough in a long-unsolved case that has held the publics interest ever since the legendary rapper was gunned down near the Las Vegas Strip in 1996.

(327 posts)Hip hop was influenced positively by both Tupac and Biggie Smalls, and we lost both for no good reason. Ive been reading that this jamoke had been teasing how close he was to Tupacs murder for years, and just now fessed up to some extent only to avoid worse charges of racketeering and similar.
Im just glad hes being held without bail. This is a long-time scumbag that shouldve been behind bars decades ago.

(3,363 posts)Hip hop and rap have never been my genres of choice, but I am glad an arrest was made after all these years. I hope that the case is solved and that justice will be done.

(8,907 posts)If its any consolation, the number of fucks given on DU to my greatest passions is infinitesimal. Still, I find value in differing points of view other than my own.
Perhaps an expression of how much this means to you personally would produce some fucks? The snide aside about all us geriatric unfuck givers is surprisingly unwoke, imho. Ymmv.
Now, if youll forgive me, I forgot why I came in here and need to retrace my steps

(3,184 posts)Nor did Biggie. Didn't really know who either of them were other than their names mentioned in the news.
Music to me was hiding in a dusty record bin in some record shop, or some pirate shortwave radio station.
I was a teen when 2 Live Crew and NWA hit the scene. I didn't get it at the time and i guess i still don't. I appreciate it for what it is.
Good that they solved the case though

(3,184 posts)I was stuck in north east texas hell. All we had was a stupid, church regulated "rock" FM station out of Mt. Pleasant, TX.
And it sucked.
I get a shortwave with a junk wire antenna and my whole world is blown apart when it came to music.
KUSW out of SLC, Utah and WRNO out of New Orleans belting out real rock and roll. This was the late 80's early 90's, the last great burst of shortwave radio.
I had ZERO idea of the music that existed outside of my realm.
DemocraticPatriot
(5,410 posts)as we were far from there--- but when you posted the phrase
"shortwave pirate radio station", it caught my attention... LOL
My station never was in the forefront of "new music" unfortunately--
even in the '80s we aired mostly old 'classic rock'... more recently, we might have been classified as a 'nostalgia station',
although we sometimes aired 'new music' that struck our fancy...
We have been 'inactive' for 5 years, although I have new equipment here which I have not activated, due to other interests....
In the age of 'social media', we aquired a blog.... I offer some links for your amusement and edification, and for that of any readers who may be interested:
(In my youth, our chosen station name, "The Crystal Ship", had nothing to do with 'crack pipes'...
Twenty years later on, the 'urban dictionary' says otherwise... lol

I consider my old "shortwave pirate radio station" to be my major 'claim to fame' in this life,
although it is a small thing....
Even so, we have made a major internet footprint, with many posts from listeners on Youtube and elsewhere....
search "TCS shortwave" "The Crystal Ship pirate" etc for those with any interest

(5,410 posts)running their amp full blast whose vibrations actually made me sick to my stomach?
(I had a 50 watt amp in my '73 Nova in the early '80s, which I ran full-blast while listening to Blue Oyster Cult and The Doors, and I am sure that damaged my hearing a little bit... My brother-in-law told me how they "always knew when you were coming"
Now, would you please describe the "3(?)" fucks which you have to give about this?
I was never any fan of Tupac or rap or hip-hop,
but he was a victim of a drive by shooting, which, as far as I know,
has never been resolved, right ?
He deserves justice, regardless of how many fucks you have to give.
I am an old white man, and I find your post to be very offensive....
ProfessorGAC
(76,188 posts)In fact, I posted on an earlier thread that I knew enough about the case to know who the suspect was.
I was a 40 year old white guy when Tupac was killed, and he wasn't even making his music for people like me.
But, I knew about the case from watching the documentary miniseries. More than once.
The broad assumption in the OP is needless mud slinging.

(5,410 posts)Guessing it was on the "Bounce" channel...
I knew only the name "Tupac" before seeing the movie, but that's all...
ProfessorGAC
(76,188 posts)...called "Who Shot Tupac" featuring Ben Crump & his team.
It was 5 or 6 episodes where the various theories were covered in each episode.
It's really good television. I've watched it a few times. Shows up on the Crime & Investigation network now and then. I think it was made in 2016.

(22,821 posts)or why I should care. I hate rap music.
Xavier Breath
(6,560 posts)so I guess I'm supposed to care somewhat, but I didn't care for that music or that genre then and I care even less today.
On the other hand, an unsolved murder may have been solved and that's always a good thing. He has friends and family and a public (to a lesser degree) who still mourn him, and if there's a conviction, I hope it can bring them some closure.
