Missouri pastor on upcoming book-burning: "If God told me to burn the book Clifford the Big Red Dog, then I'd burn the book Clifford the Big Red Dog"
Frankly, I'm surprised it took 'em THIS long.
Really...

(637 posts)"Where they burn books, they will, in the end, burn human beings too"
Heinrich Heine. Heine was a German Jewish poet and writer who lived from 1797 to 1856. The quote highlights the connection between censorship and the erosion of human rights.

(51,267 posts)Oh and no one could have seen this coming. Especially anyone who wanted to cleanse history classes so kids don't learn of this happening in the past.
Those who want to erase the worst parts of history are absolutely hell bent on repeating the worst parts.

This BS that 'Jesus laid it on my heart' is an excuse, a camouflage, to act out their hatred with no repurcusions.
If I talked to a god and told everyone around me they had to act on my conversation, I would be sent to a psychiatrist for a diagnosis. People talking to imaginary beings as if they were real is just so bizarre to me. Yet, it's reported as if it were a real and true fact.

(594 posts)In the early 1950s there was a bizarre anti-comic book craze and public comic book bonfires were held. There are photos of the bonfires where books were burned which today would be worth (conservatively) millions of dollars. It was a political witch hunt started by a doctor whose anti-comic book volume Seduction of The Innocent was debunked when his donated papers revealed that he would combine multiple patient interviews into one person, thereby debunking his own findings. A politician with presidential aspirations jumped on the band wagon and had Congressional hearings, which found nothing, and his aspirations evaporated. Today those burned books have been preserved in hardcover reprints by collectors.

(3,017 posts)If God told you to do that, maybe you should demonstrate how powerful your God is and what a great prophet you are. Wasn't it Elijah who set the example when he contended against the priests of Ba'al? Obviously, you have great faith.
So just pile those books up, and pray to your God to set them on fire himself with flames from heaven.
We'll wait.
