People are getting it wrong. The MSM is getting it wrong. Trump isn't campaigning, that is secondary. Trump is using the only defense he has, the same defense he is using in all his prosecutions, intimidate and threaten.
If this had been a jury trial, Trump would not be at the trial. Trump is at the trial threatening the judge.
Trump is telling the judge that if he comes down hard on him, he will unleash his unwashed Magats.
I bet the judge knows why Trump is in the courtroom.
Trump is also attacking the judge because it will be one of his only defenses when he appeals; the judge was prejudiced.
Trump uses the mob boss defense. When he publicly says to the judge that "people should do something," "people" know what Trump means. As Trump once said, they let me get away with it. I will say, E. Jean Carroll didn't let him get away with it.

(132,255 posts)does NOT change the fact that it is a gendered slur. Nor does "but ***I*** did not mean it THAT way" Reallllly? Then why use the word that way? What, exactly, DOES one mean, then?
It is very disappointing to see such language, and such justifications for that language, anywhere.

But his wacko buddies don't seem to be reacting much so far. They really don't want to end up in jail for 5 years for a guy who could care less.

(43,303 posts)It has to be proven that such communications foment/incite violence -- and the only way that can be proven is for cameras to actually see violent perpetrators say that P01135809 called them to do it.
Otherwise, "a gag order, penalties, jail" could overturn P01135809 whole trial. It's that simple.
Getting what you want will get P01135809 exactly what he wants -- a mistrial. Delay. Coming out the champion in his war against rule of law.

(32,237 posts)gave Trump 3 weeks to come up with an argument for why she shouldn't gag him, but the more I think about it, that was a smart move.
If judge Chutkan had immediately put a gag order on Trump he would have appealed it. Now, when Trump keeps on with his threats leading up to October 16th's hearing there will be concrete evidence to bring before the Appeals court to gag Trump.
Judge Chutkan warned Trump to stop his threats and sad for me to say, but I hope he keeps threatening people right up to Oct. 16, he is asking to be gagged, or maybe even worse? Nah.

(12,046 posts)Thats why he stood outside the courtroom bullshitting for cameras for 15 minutes then did it again at lunch break. Trump wants to fight all of his battles in the media where bullshit works, not in the courtroom where actual evidence is expected.

(32,237 posts)He could say what he said without going to the trial.
Trump is not campaigning, he is using the only defense he has, the mob boss defense. He is sitting in that courtroom staring at the judge sending the message if the judge comes down hard on him, he will unleash his Magats.
Trump said it, "people need to do something about this corrupt judge." The judge has to consider this, he has 24/7 police protection for a reason.

When he went outside the courtroom what did he say? He threatened the judge.
In my younger days I took on big coal and big gas people who wanted to strip coal and frac gas on our watershed. At every council meeting there was a goon squad who sat right behind my chair at the council meeting. Yes I got death threats and spent many sleepless nights. I can relate to what Trump is doing.

(4,085 posts)consequences when he breaks the order. He keeps doing it because no one is serious about punishing the guy. Start by placing a gag order, make him pay millions of dollars in fines, use all the tools the law provides to shutting up, jail him if he continues to break the orders. It is really that simple, the law has the tools, use them!

(32,237 posts)when he didn't have to. He didn't show for the E. Jean Carroll trial.
I am just saying that the main reason is to intimidate the judge.
Another reason not mentioned yet is to try to influence the Appeals court that the judge is prejudiced against him.
All of the other reasons given here are valid, but #1 reason is still his Mob boss defense since he has very little legal defense.

(268 posts)I read somewhere that he had another court action pending for today that he wanted an extension on. He told the judge he HAD to be here today, and got an extension. If he didn't show up, the other judge might charge him with contempt.
Things like this happen when you multiple court cases active.

He filed a lawsuit against Cohen, so Cohen was to have him deposed. This was supposed to happen this week, but cheato is using the excuse of being in the courtroom to delay it.
No matter, though, I heard it'll take place on Saturday.

(67,089 posts)The murderer chose to represent himself and was a raving, unhinged asshole from first syllable to last. He repeatedly threatened the judge and DA with lawsuits and explicitly called out their bias and persecution of him.
When the trial ended, the judge spoke to us and apologized for the murderers behavior, but the judge decided to let the murderer run roughshod in order to preempt the likely claim that the judge was biased.
I suspect something similar is at play here.

(27,677 posts)Attempting to intimidate the judge will only stiffen the judge's resolve to hold the defendant to the letter of the law and lean towards the stiffer end of any sentencing guidelines.
