Biden family dog Commander is no longer at the White House after biting incidents
Oct. 4, 2023, 10:46 PM EDT
By Kelly O'Donnell and Zoë Richards
WASHINGTON President Joe Bidens dog Commander, whose history of biting became public in recent months, is no longer at the White House, a spokesperson for the first lady said Wednesday.
Jill Biden's spokesperson, Elizabeth Alexander, said the Bidens are still determining what will happen next for the 2-year-old German shepherd, who has been involved in a number of biting incidents, some of which required medical care.
The President and First Lady care deeply about the safety of those who work at the White House and those who protect them every day," Alexander said in a statement. "They remain grateful for the patience and support of the U.S. Secret Service and all involved, as they continue to work through solutions. Commander is not presently on the White House campus while next steps are evaluated."

(15,771 posts)He's young, and still needs training obviously....but he's also in an environment where he's removed from his family (his 'pack') and LOTS of strangers...
No wonder he's got some issues not knowing who is ok or not.

(55,137 posts)There is someone/something I wish he would bite but finding the fucking moron's tiny "mushroom" is too difficult a task for even the best dogs' noses to find.
I learned from reading DU that he is an impeccable judge of character and bites only those who deserve it.

(23,714 posts)No one working with the president should have to put up with dog bites. Send Commander back to Delaware where things are not to hectic.

(35,075 posts)As a new addition to the family, he should have been removed a long time ago, after the first incident. Nobody should have to be bitten while at work.

(8,178 posts)I never understood why Presidents think they need pets at the white house.
I have had pets most of my life, adore cats and dogs, and usually they seem to adore me.
But boy howdy, they demand a lot of attention and care in normal domestic situations.
As President, the extremely challenging work on the desk of any normal President is enormous.
The impact and results of policies spearheaded by the oval office or other government entity carries a huge burden of attention and responsibility. Why add to that unnecessarily?

(24,207 posts)Probably should have already happened, but I read these were more nips than bites mostly.

(113,954 posts)breeds least suited to the chaotic environment of the White House. I don't doubt that the typical persona of LEO (including SS)--totally focused and emitting a stern ever-present aggressive potential-- is a major trigger for this very protective (by nature) breed. Beautiful dogs and great in the right environment. The WH is simply not it.

(23,082 posts)As do the people around him. If that's too much to ask, send him to Delaware.
