Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez @AOCContrary to how McCarthys defenders are behaving, men failing up is not a Constitutionally protected right.
The man made risky decisions and faced the natural consequences of them. I am not his mom, and my job is not to put pool noodles around hard corners for Republicans.

(4,094 posts)and I was one of them, were concerned with his replacement. Sometimes its better to deal the evil one knows, and the prospects, or candidates vying for the job are much worst than McCarthy, in my opinion.
Who wants Gym Jordan as Speaker? Anyone???
How about Steve Scalise? Anyone???

(114,614 posts)but those people are great at creating outrage but can't run a single damned thing properly. Everything will have to be done in spite of him/her because the House will essentially be leaderless.

(90 posts)Is Dick's daughter Liz Cheney. She could be called back as speaker
and use it as a launchpad for a presidential run.

(36,631 posts)She's competent and has shown she's not determined to destroy democracy. There's not a snowball's chance in hell that a majority of House Republicans would vote for her, though.

Dems stand aside and let the repubs self-immolate in public.

(361 posts)but you can and should assist that enemy in destroying himself. Like when Dems voted to oust McCarthy. Providing your enemy with the tools to destroy himself is good.
That old adage does not necessarily mean sit idly by.

(1,787 posts)McCarthy, but the GOP made this mess. They should suffer the consequences. Even if the country suffers too the Dems still did the right thing.

(1,965 posts)What are your thoughts on the House Speaker race after Kevin McCarthy was ousted?
McCarthy's epic crash and burn shows that Trump is the actual leader of the GOP. Trump continues to have outsized influence over the party. His popularity, base support, and impact on the party's agenda still shape party dynamics and structure. While divisions emerge within the GOP, with some members distancing themselves from Trump, he maintains a desperate grip on the party. I expect the next speaker to be even more under Trumps thumb than McCarthy was. Case in point, as of October 4, Steve Scalise (LA), Jim Jordan (OH), and Kevin Hern (OK), all Trump sycophants, are top contenders, per CBS News.
