Trump's violent rhetoric is getting muted coverage by the news media

Last week, the Republican Party’s leading presidential candidate proposed executing suspected shoplifters.

“Very simply, if you rob a store, you can fully expect to be shot as you are leaving that store,” former president Donald Trump said in Anaheim, Calif., outlining his vision for a second term at the convention of the state’s Republican Party. As the audience applauded, laughed and cheered, Trump added for emphasis, “Shot!”

Trump’s advocacy of extrajudicial killings was widely covered by newspapers and TV stations in California but generally ignored by the national press. No mainstream TV network carried his speech live or excerpted it later that night. CNN and MSNBC mentioned it during panel discussions over the next few days. The Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, NPR and PBS didn’t report it at all. The New York Times wrote about it four days later, playing the story on Page 14 of its print edition.

The Anaheim speech was part of a pattern of increasingly aggressive rhetoric by Trump — and a somewhat muted response by the news media to his repeated exhortations to violence.

During his speech in Anaheim, Trump also mocked Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) husband, who was gravely injured last year in a hammer attack by an assailant who reportedly believed the former president’s lies about a “stolen” 2020 election.

1. We rag on the media for covering him, n rag on them when they don't.

There’s no good answer for how and what to cover with MFer. I look forward to the headline “Trump DEAD.” Then at least we can all agree on it being a good thing, and celebrate together.

I just wish that I thought any of this will be better after he shuffles of this mortal coil.

I’m afraid I believe it will get worse.

Before going to bed. I read an answer once from a priest, when someone wrote in an online Q&A session whether it was ever okay to pray to God for someone to die. He actually said it was okay, as long as you truly believe that person is irredeemably evil, and a danger to others. Check and check.

11. Why would a so-called "loving" deity cause or allow a Trump in the first place?

And why would it cause or allow famine, genocide, wars, diseases, etc. etc....

I am not saying you have to believe. I don't believe in organized religion any more, but I believe in a higher power.

if your deity/god gave free will, then why would a prayer persuade it to intervene? Isn't free will a hands-off kind of thing? Or do you believe it picks and choose things to get involved in sometimes?

(Not trying to be rude; I am curious about how other people think about these things; I know there is a huge spectrum of thought on it.)

15. There is a book written by a Jewish Rabbi

called "When Bad Things Happen to Good People," that says God cannot force people to believe in him, love him or obey him. That's why he can't stop murderers or any sort of bad behavior. The Rabbi said he believes prayer is for asking God to give you strength to deal with whatever bad things come your way in life. On my praying for tfg to exit the planet, it might be a bit contradictory to that, but I also keep thinking it really wouldn't be violating tfg free will, because he was given enough time to make his choices. It's no one else's fault that he keeps choosing evil, so I don't see why God just can't call times up. But like President Biden said yesterday, it's above my pay grade.

The prayers might not work, but at least prayer gives me a safe place to vent.

I agree the media is mostly quiet. The media would oddly enough like nothing more than a Republican dictatorship, at least until the free press was banned.

For the media to stop giving him so much attention and spreading his hate?
Now we want them to broadcast it more?

Does it wear thin on the media after more than 6 years of hate speech?

Miracles do happen.

The shoplifter business is older than the Watts riots. He's got no new ideas.

The immigrants are poisoning the blood of America. All the tfg needed was a mustache and a salute. Anyone who doubted this guy was a white suprematist before today should be sure of it now.
