Capitol Police arrested the 11 people inside the Dirksen Senate Office Building under a D.C. code that prohibits crowding, obstructing or incommoding, a Capitol Police spokesperson said. The code is often cited when arresting protesters during peaceful planned acts of civil disobedience.
The protesters, who were with the antiwar group Code Pink, were advocating for Ukrainian, Russian and U.S. leadership to negotiate an end to the war, the group said in a news release.
Yes, Bernie should condemn the Russian invasion, but he should also be calling for a negotiated end to this brutal war, Crystal Zevon, from Barnet, Vt., said in the news release.

More than 50 progressive activists marched across Capitol Hill on Wednesday to protest the war in Ukraine and call on lawmakers to push the Biden administration to negotiate an end to the war.
At least 11 of the protesters were arrested outside the office of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) after congressional aides demanded they end a sit-in inside the senators office. Several senior citizens, including a handicapped elderly woman, were either handcuffed by officers or escorted out.

(49,294 posts)There is no negotiation that current leadership of Russia would accept that didn't involve ceding of Ukrainian territory to Russia. And if they accepted a negotiation that gave them only part of Ukraine, they would retreat and rebuild and try again later to get all of it.

Unfortunately, those "Saved Monies" would go to pork projects/Politicians/tax cuts for the wealthy or
large corporations or God knows where. (Actually, God wouldn't even know where it went)

(21,061 posts)Isn't it remarkable that groups like Code Pink are not only so ill-informed, but that they are also so busy spreading that misinformation.

Anyway, how can you negotiate with Vlad the Invader? Hes a madman.
Weirdly, some of the pro-Russia types (some of which are lefties who miss The Soviet Union) have been accusing us of being pro-war because we support Ukraine. I always tell them we are NOT pro-war. PUTIN was the one who invaded.

(69,364 posts)Some of the folks who are receptive to Putin's propaganda are straight up tankies, but many others are just lefties of various persuasions who get inundated with propaganda online.
Trying to reason with them is just as hopeless as reasoning with MAGATs.
