https://www.al.com/news/2023/10/childrens-picture-book-was-on-library-list-to-be-moved-to-adult-section-because-authors-last-name-is-gay.htmlRead Me a Story, Stella is a childrens picture book about a pair of siblings reading books together and building a doghouse. However, because the authors name is Marie-Louise Gay, the book was added to a list of potentially sexually explicit books to be moved from the childrens section of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HCPL) system.
Gays book has never been mistakenly censored, according to Kirsten Brassard, Gays publicist at Groundwood Books.
Although it is obviously laughable that our picture book shows up on their list of censored books simply because the authors last name is Gay, the ridiculousness of that fact should not detract from the seriousness of the situation, Brassard said in a statement.
Brassard mentioned other books on the list, including Angie Thomas The Hate U Give, which has no LGBTQ themes or sexual content but does depict the shooting of an unarmed Black teenager at the hands of police.

(6,920 posts)the only survivor among the 60 men of the U.S.S. Hornet's Torpedo Squadron 8 at the Battle of Midway.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_H._Gay_Jr.
Arriving without fighter escort in a disjointed and uncoordinated offensive, the men of Torpedo Squadron 8 attacked without hesitation under a seemingly impenetrable hail of fire from Japanese fighter planes and anti-aircraft guns. Each of their thirty planes was shot down, and yet their bravery turned the tide of the war. The sacrifice of their low-flying planes drew the enemy fire away from where the high-flying dive bombers were about to arrive, swooping down to destroy three of the four enemy aircraft carriers and winning the battle. The Japanese Navy was never able to take the offensive again.
But still, his name was Gay, so...

These ignorant cockholes have their work cut out for them. I'd change my last name to Asseater if I thought it'd give a few of them heart attacks.

(7,009 posts)Reminds me of the Christian group that changed every word GAY to homosexual.
So when they reported on a runner named Tyson Gay they changed his name to Homosexual.
That got them into trouble.
