Come out and say something to the effect of:
Look, we have long supported the creation and maintenance of a Jewish state. We were one of the first countries to recognise the State of Israel in 1948. As time went on during the Cold War, we supported Israel as a hedge against the Soviet Union, which was making overtures to Arab countries like Egypt.
And we have meddled far too much in that region of the world. Today, we're ending all of that. We'll start the process of closing our bases in Arabia, the presence of which, has enraged (some) Muslims as being a heresy or something.
Furthermore, we can no longer hold the reins on Israel, which we've done for decades. And the Palestinian Arabs wouldn't listen to us even if we had the perfect solution (which we don't), for good reason.
It is time for Israel and the Arab/Persian world to resolve their conflict on their own. We see now, as we'd never wanted to see before, that we can't solve their problems for them, and, save for the Camp David Accords, we can't divine a truce or a peace plan for them.
May God, in His divine grace, have mercy on us all.
Something like that.

(37,942 posts)Thats the reason we are stuck in this Middle Eastern quagmire.
Its all about the oil.
Seeking Serenity
(3,322 posts)That wants to do business with us. We'll buy your oil at market prices. But we're no longer going to try to solve your problems for you. We tried and failed; therefore we're stepping out.

(69,508 posts)you are so right, who are the key players on oil, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Iran. And more money in the pockets of those depots.
More oil increases and more mud being slinged at President Biden.

(38,027 posts)Not when I see women bleeding from being raped being shoved in trucks. I see no difference between the Hutus and Hamas right now. We turned our back on the Tutsis - we can't turn our back on the Israelis.
Seeking Serenity
(3,322 posts)What good can we possibly do? The Palestinian Arabs hate us; Israel won't listen to ANYTHING that might be seen as a concession.
What good can WE do (except just step back)?

(7,598 posts)We should not abandon our allies anywhere in the world. We can't wall off any conflicts from the rest of the world. We were drawn into both world wars and we probably wouldn't still exist if we hadn't been.

Would it be appropriate for me to say if we had women leaders would we be in chaos like this????

(18,051 posts)So what happens when the US disengages and Iran becomes more emboldened to launch attacks on shipping, boarding and taking over ships in international waters?
How about this, with the US not engaging, how long do you think it would take for a major regional war to break out in the middle east, thereby drawing in nations like Russia, China, etc?
As I said, yours is a mighty naive position to take.
Luckily we have a President who knows better than that.

(3,322 posts)How many wars can we finance/take sides/partake in? Ukraine. Israel. Is Iran next? China (over Taiwan, which a lot of folk seem to be heady for)?
(If handing over Lindsey Graham would make both sides stand down, I'd sanction that)
MarineCombatEngineer
(18,051 posts)How well did that work out in the 30's and 40's?
Wait, it didn't.
Like it or not, the US is a global power and isolationist is a foolhardy solution.
Russia, China, N Korea, Iran, etc would rejoice in your "solution".

(3,322 posts)Trillions in debt trying to maintain empire, tens of thousands of soldiers dead and many more wounded and psychologically traumatised. Still no peace, and people across the world hate us precisely because of our interventionist policies.

(18,051 posts)a loud minority do, but for the most part, because of President Biden's steady hand at the helm, the US has regained the respect that Benedict Donald threw away.
Don't tell me about the horrors of war, I experienced it first hand and yet I know that without the steady hand of the US with a sane President, the world would be in much worse shape.

(9,148 posts)Seriously? "He" caused or allowed the Holocaust, just one among countless horrors (wars, famines, plagues, etc.) Why would anyone think this shitty god would be "merciful" when there are eons of history showing the Sky Guy is a cruel, psychotic asshole and a mass murderer?
Also, "he" is the protagonist of a sick and twisted book of fairy tales that is the cause of a good amount of this violence and terror.
Good thing "he" doesn't actually exist.
