Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood are picking up Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter's hammers......

Country music stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are building houses this week in Charlotte, North Carolina. They are participating in Habitat for Humanity’s 37th Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project.

This annual work project is named for the former president and his wife, Habitat’s most renowned volunteers. From 1984 to 2019 they helped build, renovate and repair 4,390 homes, working alongside more than 100,000 volunteers in 14 countries.

President Carter, who began receiving hospice care earlier in the year, marked his 99th birthday on October 1. The country music power couple was working on the Habitat build in Charlotte and led fellow volunteers in singing happy birthday on social media. Brooks believes the Carters would’ve been there, volunteering in person if they could. But their presence was still felt.

It is actually identical to the one my husband's grandmother used. I had lost mine somewhere and when I hunted down recipes, Trisha's was the exact match. It is a good cake

President & Mrs Carter, Garth and Trisha all participated in the build. They rotated their time in each city for 1/2 day each. I am glad Garth and Trisha are still participating!!
That project was huge - we built a whole neighborhood in FW and probably more in Dallas, plus a number of homes in those locations were rehabbed.

My church sponsored a house, and my Sunday School class worked the first day. The Carters were there for breakfast and lunch, then they went to Dallas while Garth and Trisha came to FW for the afternoon; they came to each house and greeted the teams, posed for pictures etc. The next day they would switch.

Our house was about 4 houses from the one the Carters were building. It is a wonder we got anything done because we kept watching Jimmy Carter lugging wood into the house

This was probably 2013; I remember Speaker Jim Wright came to breakfast to see President Carter so it had to be before 2015.

Not all country music stars are asshole racist like Jason Aldean.
Gives me hope. Unless they get banned like the Chicks for not staying in line.
Bravo Garth and Trisha. Great to see country music icons doing what the “book” country music loving people worship, says we should do.
The Carters are the very best of humanity.

I like what you wrote there, about Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are building houses like Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter have been doing, with Habitat for Humanity:

To uphold democracy and the basic dignity of all people. That is what Carter's legacy is and wouldn't it be a nice present for him if they all agreed to do that.

Funny, but he's too caught up in his own importance to give back. Unlike the Carters and Brooks and Yearwood.

https://journal.classiccars.com/2021/07/21/the-story-behind-surprise-peanut-a-gift-for-a-former-president-and-first-lady/

"It has been widely reported of late that entertainers Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood presented former President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter a 1946 Ford Super Deluxe convertible for their 75th wedding anniversary.

The car was selected because 1946 was the year the Carters were married.
.. .
According to Country Music Television’s website, the car arrived at the first family’s home in Plains, Georgia, on a Wednesday afternoon and was hustled into hiding by Secret Service agents until it was time for the gift to be presented.

“Upon receipt of the gift,” the Carters’ family friend Jill Stuckey told People magazine, the Carters had “bright eyes and big smiles” and were “very excited.”...(more)
