In case you're wondering how The NY Times is framing Scalise

They’re going with “unifier who has overcome great personal hardship”

Despite an icy relationship with Mr. McCarthy, Mr. Scalise was able to pull together a small majority in a fractious and rebellious conference, securing the support of members from districts won by President Biden as well as the support of members of the ultraconservative House Freedom Caucus.

The elevation of Mr. Scalise, 58, who has been the No. 2 Republican in the chamber, is a vote of confidence for a man who has overcome great personal hardship to rise in the ranks of Republican leadership.

In Congress since 2008, he was diagnosed with blood cancer over the summer and is now undergoing intense treatment, which has prompted him to wear a mask to vote on the House floor and attend news conferences. And in 2017, during a practice for a congressional baseball game, an anti-Trump extremist shot and seriously wounded Mr. Scalise. He still walks with a limp.

Why would Republicans be voting for him right now, after all that has been going on in the middle east?

He has overcome great personal hardship. He has unified REPUBLICANS.

You just don't like the "objective" style of reportage they've long embraced. Do you expect them to say that he's a fucking dick? That's for the editorial page.

They're going to report factually and dispassionately.

I have found that in much of the NYT, if you read between the lines, the context is there. The Trump Right hates them more than DU does, because they see it.

Framing involves choosing what facts to highlight and the word choices used to do so. It can be positive or negative. All news stories do this. Other news outlets might choose to highlight other facts about him.

This is not inherently bad, and it’s useful to see how the media frames this story.

There's a constant negative focus on the NYT on DU, with subscriptions being cancelled left and right over single word choices.

Is anyone mad at WaPo? WSJ?

...he'll be just like the WH described McCarthy.

Someone who can be rolled when necessary.

He's the only one in the running, for instance, who is anti-Putin, pro-Ukraine aid.

Other than all of that, he's as MAGA as the rest of them. 'David Duke,' and all of the rest that goes with it.

Shitshow replacing a shitshow.

George Wallace was a "unifier," too. I don't much care for the kind of people he unified, though.
