The House goes into recess after two minutes:

Fred Wellman
@FPWellman

Republicans are blanketing media and social media attacking Biden for not doing enough for Israel. Meanwhile these incompetent idiots can’t even hold a session of Congress. Journalists do your damn jobs. Call them out for their failure.

My district is represented by Don Bacon, and though I don't love all of his positions, he's one of the "Main Street" Republicans and I think there is a group of Dems who, with that group of Republicans, could form something of a Venn diagram and move forward on some issues. The problem: election year politics - no one on their side of the aisle wants to govern effectively if that possibly means making Biden look good

Voted against him and will do so again and every time he's on a ballot. Don't count on him to do the best thing for us; he forgets who we are as soon as he gets back in DC.

Trump is praising terrorists, Tommy is saying don't pi k sides, and some are complaining we're not doing enough, but passed a budget that didn’t even fund the Ukraine aid. So basically, at this point the GOP has no actual response to the middle east conflict. It won't until Biden has handled it.

I still don't understand why that means a recess. But there are a lot of things about Congress that I don't understand.

EDIT: Never mind. I did some googling and found a helpful article. Here it is, for anyone else who's confused: https://apnews.com/article/kevin-mccarthy-ousted-speaker-jordan-scalise-1492ca6b58604c51186015c23f7efccd

Hard-line Republicans won't back Scalise for speaker and frustration grows as the House sits idle
Rep. Steve Scalise has been unable to sway enough skeptical Republican colleagues to support him for speaker, and the anger and frustration is growing in the House
