would it be more safe for the population to make a run for the beach and camp there ?
The Sea borders the whole strip from one end to the other long ways.

(46,142 posts)Israel has bombed Gazan targets with 6000+ rockets/bombs. The result is the death of 1400+ Gazans.
That number of fatalities includes Gazan civilians, but it also probably includes Hamas terrorists that were killed in Israel before they could flee back to Gaza as well as some number of Hamas terrorists within Gaza.
6000 rockets/bombs -- fewer than 1400 civilians killed. If Israel is targeting civilians, they're doing a rather poor job of it. Or maybe, just maybe, they aren't targeting civilians but thanks to Hamas using civilians effectively as human shields, civilians are getting killed.

(8,710 posts)Of course, some people tend to make words mean what they want to rather than what the words really mean. To too many people, its seems that any civilian death from a bomb in Gaza means that the Israelis targeted those civilians.

(5,929 posts)Israel has to choose to either not hit Hamas or accept the risk to civilians.
After the recent atrocities by Hamas, it should surprise no one that Israel is choosing the latter.

(22,218 posts)Hamas blends in with civies, using them as human shields. That's the group many on the left have supported all these years.

(3,096 posts)they can just do what they always do. Put a rocket pod in the center of a daycare or elementary school.
Then we can blame Israel for killing civilians again when a bomb hits it.
Sorry for the sarcasm, I'm just a bit flabbergasted at the reaction coming from some folks right now.

If not, it actually is not a bad idea.

(1,983 posts)... but people tossing around the word "genocide" are exaggerating, I think.
As is frequently pointed out, Gaza is not big, and is very densely populated. Israel has dropped 6000 bombs, and according to Hamas, killed about 1500 people. You'd think if they were trying to kill civilians, they would have killed many more than that by now.
Again, this is not to minimize any civilian deaths, or to say that the IDF shouldn't be more careful. War is terrible, and this whole situation is terrible.

EarnestPutz
(2,843 posts).....solution. But let me continue in that vein (sarcasm) by suggesting that the Governor of Florida has just now put into place emergency provisions for Israeli refugees to come to Florida. An evacuation of Palestinian refugees from the water off Palestine, sort of like the Cuban flotilla of "boat people", would mean that no one would have to drown. This would also give DeSantis some cred on the international/foreign affairs stage. No?

(8,910 posts)so if they are mixed into families they cannot fight and Israeli military can hem them in until they screen all the men for evidence of terrorist ties.
Meanwhile they can blast the hell out of suspected buildings containing terrorist and munitions.
In other words civilians mainly women and children get the hell out of the way and stay safe.
I would imagine Hamas has already fled Gaza.

(22,695 posts)I read that somewhere recently.
But if Hamas is gone, who is firing the rockets into Israel everyday?

(9,686 posts)The 'retooling' of Hamas that has taken place over the past two years would suggest that the border was not as closed as one might think. I personally would not be surprised if this retooling was accomplished by Wagner Group.

would you just hunker down in an apartment building a church or gymnasium ?
I personally would take the necessary action to be certain that my loved ones were out of harms way.
Camping on an open beach is an alternative to a building collapsing on you and your loved ones.

(38,729 posts)your advice is to go to the beach, and you're nutty about beaches, so it figures you'd say the beach is the answer - that's the joke. I don't think my joke worked, but I thought it was funny.
It's not a terrible idea, and I'm sure some are doing just that. Also camping in the open fields along the border.
