An Israel Defense Forces spokesperson told CNN that it had killed another Hamas commander, Billal al-Qedra, who allegedly led the attacks on the Nirim kibbutz near the Israeli border.
"This just goes to exemplify that we have the intelligence in order to take out Hamas' leadership ... all the way down to the terrorists that breached, penetrated and butchered our babies in their bedrooms. So, the operation is ongoing," Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said.
The Israeli Air Force also put out a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday about the commander's death, claiming IDF and Israel Securities Authority (ISA) "killed the Nukhba commander of the forces in southern Khan Yunis, who was responsible for the Kibbutz Nirim massacre."
Hamas has not yet commented.

The assumption is that Israel's targeting civilians. But you'd get a lot of civilian deaths just targeting high-value military targets placed in and around civilians.
They should be killing the foot soldiers and the planners, the funders and the logistics folk in Hamas. If only slightly iffy whether to target the biggest cheerleaders and supporters, but if they're collateral damage, there's utter indifference. I regret the loss of all human life--this Billal fellow's life included--but at some point you make a choice with bad consequences and you own the consequences.

(6,261 posts)He wasnt kidding. After the Munich Olympic massacre, Shin Bet spent years hunting down the perpetrators. You can bet that theyll do it again. Fifteen or twenty years from now, Hamas fighters will still be having unexplainable accidents.

(2,625 posts)I think Hamas thought they be in the catbird's seat right now starting their negotiations to use the hostages to free terrorists in Israeli prisons.
I think they and their attack was too successful for their own good

(35,784 posts)And the Munich terrorists didn't attack with thousands of missiles, either and there was no central cluster of them.
Read that an Israeli prime minister once said they'd outcrazy their enemies. The enemy ups the level of crazy, you have to outcrazy them to not appear foolish and weak.
When snarky, I call this a "culturally responsive practice."
Problem is with a lot of them, though, is that what's acceptable inside a group is often enough unacceptable across a group boundary.
