If you want to satisfy an occasion steak craving while trying to eat healthier vegetarian / vegan diet you may find "Meati" basic steak flavor will do the trick.
It really is the closest thing I've ever eaten to steak. Similar texture, chew, and taste. Only available at Whole foods for now.
Anybody else tried it yet? Opinions?.

(9,148 posts)I don't want to be too closely reminded of real meat. I also haven't eaten (red) meat since the early-mid 80s. I stopped in high school; one day I was stopped in traffic I looked through the slats of a truck into the big, liquid brown eyes of a cow that was likely on its way to slaughter. That did it.
I eventually gave up poultry, seafood and eggs. I am mostly dairy free, but occasionally "slip up" by eating some milk chocolate or a bit of real cheese. If we eat dinner at a friend's house or go out to eat and there are no good/easy vegan options, then I eat vegetarian.
But, like you, I'm glad these options exist for people who miss eating meat.

(19,745 posts)I recently found Hooray bacon at whole foods and I love it. Easiest to bake the strips then paper towel off excess oil. Really hits the spot when I miss the old blts of many years gone by!
Thanks for the tip!

(2,358 posts)Ive wandered the road between carnivore and vegan for the last 40 plus years, still looking for the place where I belong.
Maybe when I first started I was trying to emulate the meat flavor, or umami. Boca burgers were great for that, tasted like a greasy char broiler at its best.
The original Garden Burger and their first few iterations were bona fide. You could eat a burger with everyone else, but it didnt taste anything like a real hamburger. Properly prepared, they were incredible.
So these impossible burgers taste like meat to me, Ive eaten one or two, but Id really rather have the old garden burger varieties. But they dont carry them where I am.
How does one tell if an impossible burger has gone over? I havent made my peace with this one yet.
