Kevin McCarthy and some right-wing talking heads want to pin the blame for the chaos in the US House of Representatives on the fact that no Democrats crossed party lines to save or pick a Republican Speaker. The shortage of votes was, and is, the result of Republicans being unable to reach the magic number of 218 (or, in yesterday's case, 217).
Every time this comes up, the interviewer should ask any Republican supporter or complainer who makes this claim, "nothing prevents 6 or 7 Republican congressmen from crossing party lines and voting with the Democrats for Jeffries, thereby providing the House with a qualified Speaker."
It's the same line of reasoning.

(23,422 posts)you're asking interviewers and members of the media to actually do their job. That doesn't happen very often any more.

(1,614 posts)... because it's easy to blame someone else when YOU'RE COMPLETLY AND TOTALLY IRRESPONSIBLE.

(4,741 posts)To corporate masters, they would always ask every traitor thug blaming Democrats for not voting for their buffoons this question:
"How many of your traitor KKKlan voted for Nancy Pelosi to be Speaker?"
And when they of course try to deflect, then hit them with this question:
"Why should they show support for your leadership, when you have shown none for theirs?"

(13,773 posts)Anyway, no republicans would vote for Nancy when she was running for speaker.

(209,140 posts)But the Republicans have become strictly partisan, even among themselves, which is why they're experiencing the chaos that they are.

(3,943 posts)Republicans want to lead. They are the majority. They pick the Speaker.

(1,300 posts)Pelosi had a similar majority and led effectively and had no problem gaining and holding the Speakership. She didn't ask for or receive any Republican votes to become the Speaker.
The Republicans hold a similar, slim majority. If they can't lead or pick a Speaker, there is no one else to blame but themselves.
My suggested response is that to try to place the blame on Democrats is preposterous.
Perhaps someone can name me one Republican that voted for a Democratic Speaker in the last 100 years. I've tried to find one and can't.

Meaning that junior member Gaetz is a better leader than you, senior member Kevin15.
