(113,973 posts)hardest to accurately poll. I'll watch for a trend before assuming the validity and other recent polls I've seen summarized are showing Biden (overall) increasing favorability--albeit I have not seen that specifically broken down for younger voters.
Still, after months of the MSM emphasizing Biden's age, questioning if he is too old among most sources, and a significant portion of the media (and not just RW) outright claiming he is "sleeping his way through the Presidency," it could not come as a total surprise IF this is accurate.

(263 posts)yes these polls should be suspect. I will always continue to say these polls have a major Republican bias and Quinnipiac polls has always been pretty bad indicator of which party is winning.

(3,234 posts)I will say this.
I think it's dangerous that we wave off & laugh at at a poll like this when all other polls are saying the same thing. It's not an outlier. And it should be a call to immediate action & a huge red flag that we have a shit ton of work to do.
It's important to realize this is the largest voting bloc we're talking about.
Like it or not we're in the fight for our lives. This election is going to be difficult. Let's not sleep on it. We're going to have to bust our asses ❤️

(3,645 posts)However, some of these polls can turn off people, thinking, "Well, we're way behind, what's the point of voting?" I think young people are seeing the issues that affect them-climate change, body autonomy, etc. are not being addressed by the Repubs, and I think we will prevail.
One thing I wish we Dems would do is mention poverty and poor people more often, I think that's something we need to keep addressing.

(3,234 posts)That's something which very much needs to happen. I also believe we need more policy which helps poor & working class people. It's ridiculous that federal poverty levels are based on incredibly outdated methods from the 1960s!

(9,535 posts)I have no idea why the BS propaganda is working on young folks. But I am baffled that folks seem to be unable to make clear distinctions between Biden's leadership and the utter authoritarian shit show of the GQP.

(17,428 posts)3 million? 7 million? 10 million? How many MAGAt 70+ year old Dipshits have died from COVID, or from ingesting bleach since 2020?
Any pool based on 2020 voter data should be suspect.
That said, I think the motivating factor, and the reason folks WILL NOT be complacent, is because of the wreckage 2016 indifference did to our country.
In a sane world, unemployment could be 25% and inflation could be 1,000%, and Donnie Dipshit would lose 49 states to a fucking ham sandwich.
That threat to democracy is so serious that NOTHING ELSE SHOULD MATTER.

(9,205 posts)Here's what I see and hear:
1.) Most voting age young folks don't vote and are not registered. If registered they are independent and a few are right-wingers because of very active organization from the Koch style groups in the schools and colleges.
2.) The young who are active voters want politicians to talk about diversity, equity, and gender orientation - not foreign policy or the stock market. They want younger candidates and openly say so regardless of party.
3.) Most don't keep up with Congress and cannot name politicians (including their own representatives and Senators). They know who Kamala and Pete B. are and they don't know why they aren't up front - they think their favorite politicians are treated as second class by the Democrats (I've heard this often).
4.) There is an underreported large group who are international/immigrants who tend towards the GOP - because they really do believe that "democrats" are communists. They also tend to have more conservative, religious families (all types: Catholic, Muslim, etc.), and they vote at a higher rate than my traditional white students.
I could go on...but...here in Florida I don't see any effective campaign or candidate to GOTV for the young and newly registered.

(744 posts)It does no one any good to pretend that he is. I understand for many that they can't reconcile what they feel about Biden with the general feeling Americans have toward him. But there's been plenty of polling, both of his approval and his head-to-head to suggest he's extremely unpopular.
2024 is going to be very tough for Democrats. I think they're the favorites but much of their advantage is the opponent and the fact they're just as unliked, if not more so, than Biden.
That's one advantage Biden has because if the GOP was set to nominate someone perceived as more sane than Trump, unless things changed dramatically in a year, Biden probably would be looking at being a one-term president.
Biden has an image problem with a lot of voters. It's why there is the potential for a strong third party candidate in 2024 and why the campaign is nervous about that possibility.
If it's Biden vs Trump, Biden probably ekes out a win. If it's Biden vs Trump vs a strong third party like we saw in 2016, he very well could lose.
Overall voters don't like Biden. They don't want Biden running. We can't ignore that. It's now incumbent on the Biden campaign to sway perception and I guarantee they're not dismissing polls.
