Vladimir Putin is alleged to have suffered a "cardiac arrest" in his private Moscow apartment on Sunday evening.
A Telegram Channel believed to be run by a former Kremlin insider reported that incident saying the Russian leader was found by guards on the floor of the bedroom "lying on the floor, rolling his eyes."
Doctors were reportedly called immediately and they later diagnosed the 71-year-old as having suffered a "cardiac arrest."
Putin was then moved to a special medical facility built in the apartment where he underwent intensive care, the source claims.

Kind of a British thing right now. Who knows?
Of course he will still be giving public appearances even after he is embalmed.

Dear subscribers and guests of the channel! Yesterday at about 21:05 Moscow time, security officers of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who were on duty at the residence, heard noise and sounds of falling coming from the president's bedroom. Two security officers immediately followed into the president's bedroom and saw Putin lying on the floor next to the bed and an overturned table with food and drinks. Probably, when the president fell, he hit the table and dishes and knocked them onto the floor, which caused the noise. Putin convulsively arched while lying on the floor, rolling his eyes. The doctors who were on duty at the residence and located in one of the adjacent rooms were immediately called. Doctors performed resuscitation, having previously determined that the president was in cardiac arrest. Help was provided on time, the heart was started and Putin regained consciousness. The President was moved to a specially equipped room in his residence, where the necessary medical equipment for resuscitation had already been installed, practically an intensive care ward equipped with the latest technology. The presidents condition has been stabilized and is under constant medical supervision. We have already repeatedly talked about the deterioration of Putins health against the background of oncology and a number of other diseases. This case of cardiac arrest seriously alarmed the presidents inner circle, despite the fact that the attending doctors had already warned that Putin was very ill and was unlikely to live until the end of autumn. Recently, all official meetings and events have been conducted by the presidents double. After news of the evening incident, several people close to Putin contacted each other by telephone and agreed to hold consultations on Monday regarding possible actions if the president dies in the coming days.

(32,137 posts)There may be a bench, but none have Putin's accumulated autocratic authority. The Ukraine War is not popular, Russia is losing it's youth - on the field or leaving Russia. The next fool that wants to maintain the Putin War in Ukraine is not going to last long.

(7,350 posts)But the narrative that its unpopular in Russia is largely from our own media. Reality is, no one knows for sure. When we sanctioned them and strong armed a lot of companies to leave, we lost a lot of the ability to "read the room".

(32,137 posts)just about everyone is "outside the room". I suspect that Putin is steadily moving towards his own "Downfall" moment. If he is ill, I truly hope that the Russian military can think like General Milley. What will Putin do, when he is truly cornered?
The_REAL_Ecumenist
(957 posts)the average citizen but as the wife of a Czech-Ukrainian-Bohemian w/family members in Russia, trust me when people tell you, including me, to say that this situation is NOT popular at all, is putting it mildly. Of course, there are lunatics who are giddy over what's going on but that's a very small number. comparitvely speaking. You hear people saying that they've got no opinion or that they "support" putin because remember that he looks at himself as a reincarnation of Stalin & you do know what Stalin became imfamous for, right? Does the name "GULAG ARCHIPELAGO" mean anything to you? These people aren't stupid & a few of them are old enough to have had friends, family or even themselves spent some time there... Hell, Homey likes to push folks out of windows, shoot them out of the sky or serve Polonium tea. PEOPLE AREN'T STUPID ENOUGH TO PLACE THEMSELVES &/or people they love in the bullseye by revealing their true feelings openly, online, to potential pollsters or "journalists".
This is NOT Russia's War, it's Putin's war. Don't get it twisted. Russians love their children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews etc as much as other people around the globe do. They're NOT happy with this at all & they're seeing young men & women killing or being killed & noncombatants are being maimed &/or dying; babies, children, youth, mamas & daddies. the elderly, the disabled, ad nauseum...UNNECESSARILY! Don't get me started on kidnapping Ukrainian children.
Putin will find himself dying in the same fashion Stalin did. Look that up. His demonic luck is and will run out sooner rather than later, mark my words. It's just a matter of time.

We get these same BS "alarms" about Putin's health or mental state "leaked about every 6 weeks. They are never posted by genuine press sources and always claim to be from "secret insider" sources.
If Putin were in this dire condition SOMEONE ELSE would already be in charge. The tank of sharks he swims in woiuldn't allow a power vacuum.

(106,212 posts)The 3 titles in the OP - Daily Express, The Mirror, and the Daily Record (which is Scottish) are all owned by Reach: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reach_plc
The Express is their right wing tabloid, the Mirror their left wing tabloid, and the Record more or less the Scottish version of the Mirror.
The other British source that's run with this is GB News - a new news channel known mainly for employing Conservative MPs as presenters (up to the deputy party chairman). That's mainly controlled by Paul Marshall, a Brexit-supporting businessman, now considering buying the Telegraph newspapers (there are rumours Murdoch wants to buy them too, but that would probably be blocked on monopoly grounds). Murdoch's tabloid The Sun doesn't seem to have touched this.
Ford_Prefect
(8,613 posts)fabrication and rumour mongering. They are the print versions of click-bait journalism. When something ONLY appears in their pages one has to assume it is exageration, rumour, or outright fraud intended to push a headline.
It does not help to speculate on the oft repeated rumors about Putin's health or state of mind, however entertaining that may be, based upon what is clearly disinformation. To do so repeats the formula so well exploited by Murdoch and his ilk and distorts our reality based system at DU.
It might be a suggestion to make a discussion area for such topics and material to be posted and discussed, if only to track the disinfo and the sources.
I would prefer DU does not become dominated by material which of itself requires rigorous and repeated truth-checking. There is already enough doubt about reliable sources and possible leaning or filtering on their part.

(114,615 posts)The information came from a couple of Telegram channels that have had Putin at death's door for at least a couple of years. If anyone in Putin's inner circle had leaked the information, they'd be tracked down and offed immediately, and nothing of the sort has been seen, the channel is still going strong.
So take this with a pound or so of salt and realize it's most likely wishful thinking, as Russia would never release any news that Putin is not only human, he's also mortal. It just isn't done.
If he does kick the bucket, the usual procedure is to air "Swan Lake" on all TV channels for 3 days, at which time the next dictator has been chosen by the kingmakers.

(10,018 posts)MOSCOW, Oct 24 (Reuters) - The Kremlin on Tuesday denied a report that President Vladimir Putin was ill, and laughed off persistent rumours that he used body doubles to cover for him in public appearances.
"Everything is fine with him, this is absolutely another fake," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said when asked about an unsourced report by a Russian Telegram channel, picked up by some Western media, that the president had suffered a serious health episode on Sunday evening.

The spokesman laughed in response to a further question about body doubles, and denied that Putin had any.
"This belongs to the category of absurd information hoaxes that a whole series of media discuss with enviable tenacity. This evokes nothing but a smile," Peskov said.
Putin, a judo enthusiast who has long cultivated an "action man" image, turned 71 on Oct. 7. He maintains an intensive schedule of meetings and public appearances, many of them televised.
