General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe all can see what harm Fox News and RW Talk radio have done.
What can be done about it though? I admit my preferred answer to that question is probably unconstitutional i.e. banned from broadcasting. But is there ANY means of minimizing the damage? Or do we just have to sit back and watch the damage being done? And suffer the consequences......
Any ideas?

(6,748 posts)some wealthy folks who lean democratic to fund radio with a leftist lean. Talk radio in rural areas is totally dominated by right wing nuts. They need to hear from the other side. It's been tried before and failed for many reasons. Surely our side is smart enough to find serious backers and great talent.
Trade one kind of "brainwashing" for another one we like better?

(72,515 posts)good, but it's almost impossible to legislate against what's causing the problem. And even if it was possible to legislate against it, SCOTUS and the deep-pocketed right-wingers who encourage this kind of propagandization will be right there to help kill it.
We may just have to wait for right wing hate radio's target audience to die off. There will always be people of all ages who groove to this shit, but their biggest demographic is the Hate Generation, and they're dropping like flies.

(4,616 posts)Which generation would that be? Hate to break it to you but, hate has been going on in this country since the first settlers arrived and around the globe since the beginning of time.

One has to be pretty twisted by hate to switch parties because the one you used to belong to wants to treat all human beings as equals deserving of respect.

(26,395 posts)COVID crap etc., don't take the vaccine(s), don't believe the doctors, etc., as a result, COVID is still running roughly 4000 cases a day (hospital admissions). And from the map I'm looking at (NY Times), seems like most of the deaths are occurring in the southern part of the US and in a narrow belt across the western parts of TX, OK, KS, Neb, South D., and North D. All primary republican regions.
Look at 'all times deaths', in the NY Times and you'll find numerous maps, showing where the deaths etc. are localized.
A sad sad picture, and I thought that we're over w/ COVID. We're having roughly 1,000 deaths a week still.

(38,330 posts)Not to be sneezed at, but broadcast can no longer be relied to be the dominant media. There are many more ways around it than there used to be.

(2,010 posts)Ads that minimize or negate what they are spewing!
Some Dems have also appeared on these channels, but advertising our side of things and highlighting their dysfunction and hate rhetoric might help, a bit. And we can highlight the brainwashing they are doing! Just a thought, since you asked.

(4,030 posts)Talking points:
1) Consuming right-wing propaganda is a betrayal of one's country since it's the responsibility of citizens to be informed
2) Right-wing propaganda should not be allowed in government facilities like the military
3) Just keep pounding away at it as bad and evil and point out the damage it has caused
The left needs to be doing more propaganda themselves. Grassroots efforts are great but they are more high-maintenance compared to a propaganda machine
