(23,167 posts)Nothing, except perhaps another stalled impeachment effort.
The Emoluments Clause has no statutory equivalent, and no enforcement mechanism other than impeachment.
The plaintiffs may have been able to get to a civil trial, but that wouldnt have guaranteed any awards for damages.
So, one ruling in Trumps favor, and at least half a dozen against him for claims of privilege, immunity, etc.

This is a PAST-TENSE story. He was subpoenaed to talk to the Grand Jury. He would have likely pled the Fifth without immunity from prosecution.

(8,838 posts)everything and every one went through Mark Meadows...he was always going to get immunity if he flipped on Trump...as much as we'd like to see Meadows and his fellow coup conspirators rotting in a prison cell (and MAGA congressional enablers), January 6 was Trump's "baby" and getting Trump is priority #1..

Jack Smith's gotten him to admit he burned evidence, and Smith's got ever so much more evidence that Meadows must admit to, and so had to cut a plea deal in return for KEY eye witness testimony on Trump. In addition to what he admitted on videotape in the GA case.
Smith wouldn't give immunity unless he got everything he needed to convict Trump.

(22,568 posts)As I said in another reply, Smith is nobody's fool, and he knows exactly what he's doing.
It doesn't matter if we think Meadows is trustworthy or not. Smith is the one who's in charge here, and I believe we can trust him.
ShazzieB
(22,568 posts)I trust Smith. I trust his experience and his judgment. Prosecutors don't give someone immunity without a damned good reason, and Smith is a very experienced prosector.
Trump's ugly orange hide is about to get nailed to the wall, and Meadows is going to supply a lot of the nails!

(36,907 posts)"Ex-Chief of Staff Mark Meadows granted immunity, tells special counsel he warned Trump about 2020 claims: Sources
Meadows said Trump was "dishonest" on election night, according to sources.
Former President Donald Trump's final chief of staff in the White House, Mark Meadows, has spoken with special counsel Jack Smith's team at least three times this year, including once before a federal grand jury, which came only after Smith granted Meadows immunity to testify under oath, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The sources said Meadows informed Smith's team that he repeatedly told Trump in the weeks after the 2020 presidential election that the allegations of significant voting fraud coming to them were baseless, a striking break from Trump's prolific rhetoric regarding the election.
According to the sources, Meadows also told the federal investigators Trump was being "dishonest" with the public when he first claimed to have won the election only hours after polls closed on Nov. 3, 2020, before final results were in.

(22,568 posts)I do, and I am positive he wouldn't be giving Meadows immunity unless he was absolutely sure that 1) Meadows has the goods on Trump, and 2) Meadows is willing to spill everything he knows.
Smith is a very experienced prosecutor, and he's nobody's fool. He knows what he's doing. He also probably has dirt on Meadows that he can hold over his head to make sure he doesn't get out of line.

(41,585 posts)Fani Willis would have offered him a deal a month ago, or even a few weeks ago. But Meadows was busy trying to get the venue changed to the federal courts, and that bombed completely. Now there are least 3 ahead of him getting the plea deals in Georgia.
His testimony won't mean squat, if Chump can be convicted on the testimonies of Sidney Powell, Kenneth Chesebro, and Jenna Ellis. I'm guessing the Attorney General already has enough from those three.
Meadows' goose is cooked, right along with his former boss.
