This is what happens when 1 man hollows out a party

What we are seeing in the speakers race is what happens when the entire GOP subjugated itself to the whims and demands of Donald Trump. There is absolutely NO leadership in the party outside of him. Until they cut him loose and move on this is what the GOP will look like.

1. I am wondering whether the GOP is in a doom loop of its own creation.

They are completely in thrall to TFG because they fear the power of his base. But how powerful is that base, really? Has TFG deliberately created the illusion that his base is still powerful enough to control everything GOPers can do (like elect a Speaker). But maybe it really isn't, and GOPers are acting in fear of a force that isn't real?

The GQP base is thoroughly propagandized and doesn't know down from up. They're DEPLORABLE.

The Democrats took. The r’s let themselves be “hollowed out” with the Tea Party movement and never looked back and the voters are just as responsible for not demanding governance by keeping them in office. Having said that, tfg found the rot and made it what we’ve got today.

Decades of hate, anti-semitism, racism, "Government's the problem" (they meant regulation and corporate taxes), conspiracy theories, misogyny, militarized Qristianity, Assault weapon lust, Mitch grooming religious fanatics for the court ...

So this morphed into personality politics and a cult. Then "The Man Who Would Be King" got a flesh wound

Says "T'is but a scratch". But continues to lose battles.

Nothing left. Tries head-butting ...

Republicans have been working towards drowning the government in a bathtub. What happened with Trump is they saw the light at the end of the tunnel with his attempt at authoritarian rule.
When he floundered at the end and didn't declare martial law and finish his coup, the lead Republicans thought they could still pull it off by denying the fact that it was a coup. It almost worked, the DOJ was going to let bygones be bygones, but that pesky pelosi had to go and start an investigation. Thank Dog everyday for Nancy Pelosi.

from US and foreign forces that wanted this country to fail.

I'll call out most mega-rich capitalists in the US as well as the oligarchs/plutocrats from around the world. They don't want any regulations or limits on their ability to plunder the world.

He only has 25-30 votes that continue to hang with him. A very small minority of the House.

But, it is enough to keep them from doing anything.
