It’s a tax. They hate any and all taxes. To give you an idea of how long they’ve been trying and basically who is fueling their effort see this excerpt from a letter Eisenhower wrote to his brother in the 50’s.

Those wanting to get rid of SS today are not negligible but almost the entire R party. Maybe we should be hammering this point home going into the next election since there's a lot of older Rs who would be destitute without SS.

Some might but the majority would not become destitute if they lost their SS. Now then the majority of retired seniors can not afford to live in the Villages and like most Americans live paycheck to paycheck, these are the seniors we need to target along with their older working children. With clever newspaper ads, snail mail, and billboards.

Love to see something along the lines of a talk bubble coming from an R's mouth saying "Please, please, please people ask your parents and grandparents to move in with you now so you can get used to supporting them before I vote to kill Social Security and steal all the money you paid into it"
"Help trickle down work"

Below that....Or you can vote Democratic and leave your parents and grandparents where they are.
Lots of different messages we could use depending the area of the Country. And I'd go after them heavy in red States, the outcome will surprise a lot of people.

Time we started using FEAR of something to help in the voting booth.

He also said that Congress would never be able to keep their hands out of the cookie jar, and would wreck it if not kept in check. As I have grown old, I have certainly seen the truth of his comment about Congress.

Historical timeline for context: Grandpa was born in the 1880s and Mom (his 5th child) was born in 1924, so FDR’s administration was in his adulthood and in her childhood. She had a lot to say about her father, not all of it complimentary. Mom said he was a right-winger, and I could see she learned to shun his core prejudices. On the other hand, he lost everything in the Great Depression, and went on the road with the CCC as an electrician with the crews building the CCC camps, and that was certainly an FDR program.

- Receiving Social Security as some child benefit.
- And he's gay.

That works to expand Christian practices within public schools and in government,[7][8] outlaw abortion,[9][10] and curtail the rights of LGBTQ people.[11] ADF is headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, with branch offices in Washington, D.C., and New York, among other locations.[12] Its international subsidiary, Alliance Defending Freedom International, which is headquartered in Vienna, Austria,[13] operates in over 100 countries.[14]

ADF is one of the most organized and influential Christian legal interest groups in the United States[15] based on its budget, caseload, network of allied attorneys, and connections to significant members of the political right.[16][17][18] Individuals associated with ADF have included U.S. Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett,[16][19] former vice president Mike Pence,[20] former attorneys general William Barr[21] and Jeff Sessions,[17][22] and Senator Josh Hawley.[23][24]

ADF attorneys have argued a number of cases before the Supreme Court, taking positions such as support for religious activity in public school and Christian prayer at town meetings; narrowing coverage of contraceptives under the ACA; prohibiting same-sex marriage, and supporting businesses in the wedding industry who refuse to service gay marriages.[25] ADF lawyers also wrote the model for Mississippi's anti-abortion legislation involved in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, the decision that overruled the 49 year-old precedent case Roe v. Wade establishing the right to abortion.[26]

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) designates ADF as an anti-LGBT hate group, saying in 2017 that, since the election of President Donald Trump, ADF had become "one of the most influential groups informing the [Trump] administration's attack on LGBTQ rights."[11] The ADF has taken many anti-LGBT positions: it opposes same-sex marriage, decriminalization of same-sex sexual activity, and anti-discrimination laws, as well as taking an active role in writing model anti-transgender bills for state legislators.[11][27][28]

faction of government, it seems that the house will operate by biblical verses rather than the constitution. So if that is the case, and I know nothing about the bible, but does anywhere give the right to bear arms and kill others? Maybe use this time to point out that restrictions on guns should be passed because the bible does not say Americans have an all consuming right to own military style weapons.

Matthew 22:35 -40

"one of [the Pharisees], which was a lawyer, asked [Jesus] a question, tempting him, saying, ...Which is the greate commandment in the law?
Jesus said unto him, "Thou shalt love the Lord they God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.
...the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."

You shall know them by their works. Good will prevail, and the Jesus Christians of Congress and the presidency will make sure of that.
Keep the faith.

Those millions of republicans want an authoritarian/theocratic gov't but they mistakenly think they will be the few thousand elites actually in charge.

Those millions are useful tools for those who will actually be in charge.

One poster called it a 'new social feudalism age'.

If this guy really believe the things he said, he is f'ing crazy, especially about banning sex outside of marriage. Does this guy know the actual history of sex and this country? Whether this guy know it or not his parents, grandparents, and their friends were getting busy, at times outside of marriage. The government cannot stop people from having sex whenever they want to have sex.

As far as his take on Social Security, Democrats should be running ads until the 2024 election point this out. Republicans want to give tax cuts to the wealthy while cutting social security.
