(3,396 posts)They likely wanted him to return there to apprehend him there instead of a confrontation where others may have been in harms way.

Like hiding a letter in the letter box (a la a Sherlock Holmes story).

Well after all he IS a right winger, they're not exactly known for being smart.

(15,359 posts)One of them still lived at his parents' house. They were gone on vacation and the cops were watching or had the place wired somehow. They got both of them sneaking back to town. I think cops are used to fugitives thinking they can pull that off.

(35,075 posts)As someone with smart lights, all you need is the app. They need to cut or block ALL internet / cellular access at his home... if that is his home. That would cut out any shenanigans'.

(35,075 posts)What rights does Canada have in all this? Can they handle an American terrorist, armed to the teeth? Can they strike us to keep him out? Would it be deserved?

(79,056 posts)that probably isn't among the most likely scenarios. It was the goal of a couple of NYS prison escapees a few years back, and this guy is know to be a "outdoors man." That made it less likely, on the surface, that he would be hiding in a house he either owns or is familiar with, rather than out in a forest.
However, investigators would be aware of if he is organized or disorganized. It was evident that he put some planning into this. Yet both places he attacked were soft targets. He was not wearing body armor last night, giving the impression he was not focused on surviving if the police found him right away. He did, however, have an escape plan, as he dumped his vehicle and got away some other way. Also, since there are pictures of him bowling in the past, it seems likely he was familiar with the places he shot up.
I don't know if he is in the house being reported on now, but it seems likely. I don't think that this is the same approach as other places he either owns or is familiar with. Investigators have been to these places, in part to interview others familiar with him. On one station I was watching, a guest said that an investigator had seen something earlier that suggested the guy was in there, hence the response.

(79,056 posts)had on an "expert" -- I wasn't paying close enough attention to identify him, but he looked & sounded like he had law enforcement experience -- said he was under the impression that someone had saw something that led them to believe he was inside. Hopefully he is, and there is a resolution that does not involve any harm to law enforcement. He said this will likely take hours, since police vody armor does not stop the type of ammunition he uses.

Law enforcement officials are currently on Meadow Road in Bowdoin to execute several search warrants. The announcements being heard over a loud speaker are standard search warrant announcements when executing a warrant to ensure the safety of all involved. It is unknown whether Robert Card is in any of the homes law enforcement will search. Law enforcement officials are simply doing their due diligence by tracking down every lead in an effort to locate and apprehend Card.
