(2,300 posts)I think she is being dumb, but I that sort of response is going too far IMO and would make me question our party's commitment to free speech and democracy.

Tlaib is no longer a Democrat.

(1,285 posts)Since this war started, a lot of people on this site seem to be fine with shutting down free speech.

(19,900 posts)Tlaib can say whatever she wants, it doesnt mean the Democratic Party needs to associate with her.
SickOfTheOnePct
(8,710 posts)As to say boot her from committees or the caucus, but this not a free speech issue. Like everyone else, she has free speech, but with that right comes potential consequences.
Freedom of speech is related to the government not being able to criminally punish you for what you say
it doesnt mean you face no consequences.
TheRealNorth
(9,647 posts)Will throw a lot of money against her at the next election. Those are the consequences.

(98,883 posts)and while I can understand her personal attachment to this situation, why she wouldn't try to outreach to the President privately about her concerns, instead of going to social media, is not the brightest move.

(9,647 posts)If she wants to support a primary challenger, that's one thing. But it's not like having a Republican in the WH would improve the situation for the Palestinians.

(3,477 posts)As far as I know, she never took down that tweet accusing Israel of "bombing the hospital", either. I can only interpret that, and this fresh threat not to support Biden, as doubling down.

(3,477 posts)I'm pretty sure her district includes at least parts of Dearborn, if not most/all of it, and Dearborn has the highest concentration of Muslims per capita in the country. Tlaib has also won resoundingly in the last couple elections, so there's also that.
I'd say the odds are good many of her constituents are on the same page she is.
Pathetic indeed Jedi.

(276 posts). . . I don't doubt that WE continue to receive severely filtered and/or BAD information. The endless flood of garbage coming from the folks with the MEGA-phones threatens to drown us all. And I fully include MSNBC in that bunch. I used to have hope for a "liberal" TV news outlet but Truth and Facts just don't sell anymore.
Over the years, so, so many lies from our state dept. and Israel (and so many others) too many times to believe anything issuing from them.
I'm sure that you have, at least, heard of, and possibly read, Howard Zinn's People's History of the United States? So, you would know that IT happens here quite a little bit.

questionseverything
(11,840 posts)I only see her say a couple sentences, nothing I found terribly offensive but I wall say, the tens of thousands of young protesters seem to have the same attitude about Israel as the young people I have raised
. My kids think the Israeli government are bullys and are pissed the United States pays for so much
. Obviously du doesnt agree but du is much older
We ignore the youth at our own peril

(106,211 posts)Note that hardly anyone has seen that video - 1,200 views, about 24 hours after it went up (for comparison, this thread has had over 1,800 views). She is edited into it, but it's not clear that she has anything to do with the shots of the demonstration or its claims, as you say in another reply.
What she has said was:
"President Biden, not all Americans are with you on this one and you need to understand that. We are literally watching people commit genocide and killing the vast majority just like this, and we still stand by and say nothing. We will remember this," she warned.

Google search for Tliab threatens gets me nothing other than some Jesse Watters Fox bullshit.
That being said Tliab is not one of my favs, kind of a tool in my book.
Main point, many are reacting to critical Israel posts with the same link response at best along with some very uncivil comments.
Flame away! But when you have a you a guy like me that is wholly behind destroying Hamas, yet have some criticisms of Israeli leadership and tactics, then log in and see some horrifically insensitive comments regarding Palestines, well you aint winning hearts and minds.

For many, her statement will be seen not as supporting Palestinians, but as supporting Hamas. After this, few politicians would even want her endorsement.

(2,020 posts)every horrible injustice he commits against Muslims and Arab Americans will be on her hands. She is using her platform to incite and divide, to encourage her supporters to vote against Biden, or to not show up at the polls, and in a swing state, no less. That's pretty dangerous, especially when you consider some of the things Trump is already proposing doing to Muslim and Arab Americans. Does she actually think that Muslims and Arab Americans (or Palestinians in Gaza for that matter) will be better off under a Trump presidency? Is she actually that stupid?
