'Very convenient': Michigan's first early voters head to polls
LANSING, MI – Robin Stites quietly made Michigan history on Monday.
More than a week before an election, she walked into a government building, picked up a ballot and a pen, filled in the circles and slipped the ballot through a tabulator.
“It was very convenient,” she said.
From a national perspective, this is not an amazing feat. Many other states have what she did: early in-person voting. But for Michigan, which didn’t even have no-reason absentee voting or automatic voter registration until 2019, this is a culmination of voting rights evolution.
