Director of al-Shifa Hospital: 'We are tired of calling on the world to help us'

A short while ago, the director of al-Shifa Hospital delivered a briefing. Here are the main talking points:

There are only hours left until the power generator stops.

There are 42 premature babies depending on oxygen machines to survive. If the generators run out of fuel, the electricity will be cut off from their oxygen devices.

Fifty-seven kidney dialysis machines will stop, oxygen generation machines will stop, too.

We are tired of calling the world for help.

We are calling the people of Gaza. Whoever has a litre of fuel please bring it here to the hospital.

The situation is dangerous and the machines could stop at any moment, killing all the patients.

They have tons of supplies. Letting in more supplies of food and fuel only to let Hamas siphon it away is militarily stupid.

It is Hamas who launched this attack knowing full well what Israel’s response would be. They knew thousands of Palestinians would die and didn’t give a damn.

I truly feel bad for those people, but at this point, there’s little or nothing to be done for them

Those with your mindset would say and demand

Do you somehow think Hamas operates in a vacuum and has no idea what western response would be? They set their own people up for destruction and you are being complicit in this. Of course, it is a tragedy, of course no one wants to see babies or innocent civilians, such as they are, die or suffer. But that is what happens when you declare war on ann entity, which is stronger than you. There is not a war in history that does not involve the death of innocents. Israel is not going to allow this kind of wholesale slaughter to occur again and will root out Hamas, its planners and soldiers, and rid the world of the scourge.

What I do see from you and others offering up ad nauseum are rationalisations for the selective disregard of the rules of war and attempted diminution of the wanton killing of civilians. EOS

It is selective application of these so-called rules to Israel. Every time they have a conflict, having been terrorized, the world comes down on them for a “inappropriate response“. Well, Hamas knew exactly what they were doing because thousands or millions of people Have now targeted Jews and Israelis with their hate. Now we have to be careful because the volume of antisemitism has gone through the roof. All because our people were slaughtered worse than cattle.

And on edit: i’m tired of having the shit beaten out of me, my family, and my people, OK? How dare the world do this to Jews who have given it so much and quite frankly, asked so little reason to be left alone. We don’t proselytize, we don’t forced our beliefs on anybody else, we leave everyone alone. In return all we get is shit on for one millennium after another. We finally got this thin fucking sliver of land in the middle of nowhere that nobody was doing anything with, and all the sudden once they had it up and running everybody showed up and said that’s ours if we want it back. Well, guess what, they’re not getting it back. Ever.

I expect to see the DU general discussion board littered with many threads over the next few years decrying the treatment of oppressed and displaced individuals in the other 200 and some countries in the world. Funny though, I don’t expect that’s going to happen anytime soon.

I’m going to reiterate something I posted a few weeks ago: if the Jews have been given the planet Mars rather than Palestine, they would’ve had it up and running and 50 years and everybody be showing up there and saying “it’s our homeland, and we want it back“. This is not original, it was stated by Howard Stern, many many years ago. But there is no question that it is the case.

This is not the flex you think it is. It is cruel and dismissive to handwave the deaths of civilians, mainly children, in this way.

should contact Hamas for some supplies. I'm sure they would share with the hospital since Hamas cares so deeply about the people of Gaza. I don't have a phone number to contact Hamas to make such a request but there's at least a couple of folks posting at DU daily that could no doubt get him the number.

not basic human rights principles - might is right.
Some are chosen and the rest of us aren’t based on resources religion, wealth and power. Those matter more than the lives of ordinary people.
The same people will condemn or support war crimes based on their own personal interests.
