Hamas just bombed the humanitarian corridor for Gazans ⚠️
Today, the IDF's Arabic spokesperson declared a humanitarian corridor on the Salah Al-Din road in Gaza from 13:00-16:00 for evacuating northern residents. During this time, Hamas militants attacked the road with mortars and anti-tank missiles.

(8,710 posts)as I no longer automatically believe first reports.
Having said that, I would t be even a little surprised if its true.

(10,966 posts)A quote on that guy's Twitter page. I thought it clarifying.
I'll wait a little on confirmation with this sort of thing. After the hospital story (that certain congresspeople keep repeating for some reason), it's better to have multiple firmed up sources.

(34,286 posts)Don't know if any civilians were injured. But it sounds like it was between Hamas and IDF.
Soldiers versus militants is to be expected and encounters without injuries, even when fire power is exchanged are quite common and generally to be expected.
The problem is: This hampered the evacuation of civilians. If there are bullets flying etc, they are less likely to evacuate.

(26,008 posts)leaving the increasing levels of fighting in the north where Hamas is concentrated. They want the civilians to remain as cover for them.

(42,033 posts)The Israel Defense Forces on Saturday accused the Hamas terror group of attacking Israeli troops working to open up a humanitarian corridor for Palestinians to evacuate from northern Gaza to its south.
On Saturday morning the IDFs Arabic-language spokesman Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee announced that between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. the Strips north-to-south Salah a-Din road would be open for Palestinians to evacuate to southern Gaza.
The IDF said Hamas took advantage of the situation and launched mortars and anti-tank guided missiles at troops working to open up the road for civilians.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...so this report is originally from one of the 2 sides, it's probably best to wait for 3rd party verification.

(42,033 posts)Do you think that the IDF launched mortars and anti-tank guided missiles at themselves?
If you go to the link you can see that it was caught on radar. The photo is in the story.
Business as usual on DU.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...in high-stakes situations, it's best to hear what both sides say has happened, but to verify for yourself what actually happened.

(12,581 posts)Like their side of "We didn't kill any civilians in Israel"?
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...it's always best to verify what the truth actually is.

(34,286 posts)No western journalists are there, except for one person holed up in an AP office and one person holed up in AFP. They are in evacuation zones in Rafah and have not left for weeks. Meanwhile Al Jazeera is throughout Gaza. All of their correspondents live in Gaza. So Al Jazeera would be the possible third party, but they are being sponsored by Hamas. If they criticize Hamas they will be kicked out.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...I was just told about the media blackout.
I didn't realize all the information everyone is discussing (and fighting over) is hearsay, guesswork, or worse, propaganda.
I guess we won't know what's really going on for a while, until we can hear from some credible, non-biased witnesses, if ever.

(34,286 posts)I can't get to yesterday's archives. They did discuss the humanitarian corridor being open. I don't see anything refuting this.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...anything confirming it?
It seems like a major thing to not have more reports coming in about it...

(34,286 posts)If Hamas was accused of shooting the IDF and harming innocent civilians and they didn't do it, Al Jazeera would report it.
Al Jazeera is on the scene in Gaza 24/7 because they are receiving protection from Hamas. If they get critical, they will be kicked out. They are the only major MSM on the scene. AP has one report and so does AFP. Meanwhile Al Jazeera has livestreams, numerous correspondents.
You can watch them 24/7 in English and Arabic

Al Jazeera's access to Gaza is fairly elaborate. Western journalists basically have a media blackout.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...that does make verification of anything difficult, if not impossible.
Thanks.

(8,710 posts)And if so, I apologize, but I dont recall you ever questioning anything that comes out of Hamas-controlled Palestinian sources.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)... or believe, anything that comes from hamas, so I've never thought it worth questioning.
There is no question, if it comes from hamas, it's ALL b.s. as far as I'm concerned.
That's probably biased of me but there it is.

(22,456 posts)...but as I mentioned, I feel it's best to verify important information independently of what either side is trying to publicize.

(34,286 posts)Some of what has happened has been verified via satellite, stationary webcams and verified video (time stamped etc)
Unless someone took videos, but there hasn't been any released.
Today, the AP has videos from today. I assume whomever filmed did so because it was safe. The road was clean enough and people were walking or being pulled in donkey carts. If they were talking, they sounded like they were cursing. One guy was translated and he was real mad.
Keep in mind this is from today and not yesterday.

(10,333 posts)If not, how you can claim that they are "one of the 2 sides?"
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)...in the link states:
"IDF says Hamas attacked troops as they opened evacuation corridor for Palestinians"
And the rest of the article states numerous times that the claim of this attack is being made by a spokesman for the IDF, the IDF is one of the 2 sides in this.

The main route for evacuation will be Salah Al-Deen Street, with a window between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. local time, according to Avichay Adraee, IDF spokesperson for the Arab media.
I closed the link will try to find it again to post it, but it was on the CNN site.
