A crowd of protesters from a pro-Palestinian rally earlier today in Washington have marched to the gate of the White House, where they are filmed chanting, We dont want a Jewish state. We want 48!
The chant is a reference to the year 1948, when five Arab armies attacked the fledgling state of Israel seeking its destruction.
A group of protesters dip their hands in red paint and smear the concrete posts along the White House outer fence to symbolize blood being shed in Gaza.
Tens of thousands of people participated in todays rally at Freedom Square near the White House.

Peace, peace. A piece of this and a piece of that, and pretty soon Israeli bodies in pieces all over.

I hope the red paint ruins their clothes and makes them sick.

(10,018 posts). . . why Israel has such a powerful military. Antisemitism never goes fully away and is always lurking in the cess pits to rear it's head and kill Jews.

He is not near the White House.
Basically what they were chanting for was "genocide" with a little "g".
Maybe more like ethnic cleansing.
Exactly what they were protesting against.

No one should have any doubt what this is about. People hate Jews and only will like them if they are dead.
I give up on looking for basic goodness in people.

(45,120 posts)but there are performances that are especially horrible and condemnation-worthy.
When the goal is a moral obligation, expecting somebody to abandon the goal is not wise.
We learned that lesson in 1918 and in 1945. Germany wasn't defeated; it was frustrated and that frustration at being better and yet humiliated resulted in another war. After defeat, where the spirit of the German people and their aspirations to power was broken, rebuilding could happen. At that point the residue of Nazis didn't much matter--they got scant traction, little buy in, Germans acknowledged that they had been wrong and didn't want to go that way again.
People have lamented that many in the South after the Civil War felt not defeated, but betrayed and humiliated, even if if it didn't result in another bloodbath.
Hamas will be defeated when it tries to recruit fighters and gets few takers but is reduced to little more than a Gazan equivalent of the Baader-Meinhof gang.
That way would prove to be very, very bloody--convince the Palestinians the wrongness of their cause, '48!'--but to adopt a cause that is achievable without genocide. Israel will have to trust that Palestinians, when Hamaas stages a massacre to derail a deterioration of their likely support, don't bake Hamas; Palestinians will have to accept that Israelis are negotiating in good faith. Both will have to accept compromises and both will have to rein in their zealots convincingly, with acceptance that this won't be done in an afternoon and that some of both sides will die as each side imposes the majority view or at least peaceful coexistence on both sides.

(28,471 posts)selectively ignore the true genocidal bigotry of the pro-Palestinian movement. This is why the Israelis do what they do. They know what would await them if they truly let their guard down.

(3,489 posts)After all, it's not as if their neighbors haven't tried it before. It just hasn't worked out so well for them every time they've tried. The principle of "Fuck around and find out" has been around for much, much longer than the catchy saying itself.

(4,734 posts)If those young people who were demonstrating calling for genocide or ethnic cleansing etc. will look back on their behavior when they age and regret how they acted that night. I put it to a failure of education, social pressure and lack of critical thinking. Many were manipulated and got caught up in the 'thrill of the moment.'
I think it's a societal issue for the most part.
Personally, when I'm faced with a difficult choice, I ask myself if I will regret it in the future.

(30,068 posts)And child's friends are all self proclaimed leftists who've made comments about chasing the Jews out of Palestine. They don't believe Israel should exist and they're mouthing trendy things from Tiktok. She asked a few questions and quickly realized they had absolutely no idea about any of the history of the Middle East nor did they care.
Supposedly several creators all over social media are using current actions to convince our youth that there was no Holocaust.
It's disturbing.

There will be no winners in this conflict and the Palestinians of Gaza will surely be the main losers.
Gaza has been the world's largest outdoor concentration camp with a generation who have been born and grew up there with no hope. It's been a disaster waiting to happen and now it has.
Israel became complacent under Netanyahu, depending on technology rather than boots on the ground Intel. Hamas infiltrates and attacks Israel on a Jewish holiday--who could ever anticipate that happening? Maybe those who remember 1973.

And there will be others who believe in healing, light and peace. But those don't get as many responses.
