JD Vance: Ohio's abortion vote 'was a gut punch'

Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) says his state’s vote Tuesday to enshrine abortion rights “was a gut punch” for anti-abortion officials such as himself.

In a lengthy post online, Vance, who campaigned against the effort to ensure abortion access, attempted to parse out why the measure won with support from nearly 57 percent of voters.

“For pro lifers, last night was a gut punch. No sugar coating it,” he wrote.

“We have to recognize how much voters mistrust us (meaning elected Republicans) on this issue,” he added.

“Having an unplanned pregnancy is scary. Best case, you’re looking at social scorn and thousands of dollars of unexpected medical bills. We need people to see us as the pro-life party, not just the anti-abortion party.”

Abortion rights proponents have celebrated the Ohio vote.

“The results in Ohio underscore what the vast majority of Americans believe: politicians should not interfere in decisions that should be between a woman and her doctor,” Vice President Harris said in a statement.

Life threatening complications are an inherent risk to any pregnancy, and if the laws are draconian enough, any woman may find herself unable to access appropriate and potentially lifesaving medical care, or could be treated like a criminal if she has a miscarriage.

He's too small minded to grasp that these laws can potentially impact just about anyone, and not just his stereotyped image of someone with an "unplanned pregnancy".

Why don't voters want to make it scarier? Women are clearly not deterred from getting an abortion by social scorn from J.D. Vance and the prospect of medical bills. Let's throw in the possibility of going to jail and having a bunch of ignorant old men in the legislature make your health care and reproductive decisions for you. THAT's how you win on an issue, J.D.

You cruel moron.

Except you aren't in any way a "pro-life" party. What evidence is there to show that Conservatives actually care about people? Certainly they care about their own families and such, but when the rubber meets the road, they oppose anything that is designed to make the average person's life a little better and prefer to give money to the wealthy instead of spending anything to help people live.

Show us you are the "pro-life" party instead of just saying it. Pass a living wage, enhance regulations against pollution; fund social services, etc... that is pro-life.

You are anti-choice, not pro-life.

For them, women are still property...the concept of reproductive slavery is no problem for them.

How about funding **public** schools?

How about passing a livable minimum wage?

Repugs only care about keeping women barefoot and pregnant, and their husbands forced to toil at capitalists wishes.
