His candidates lose. His beliefs are abhorrent to most Americans. He carries no torch or mantle to pass on and if he did he has no one to pass it to. I'm pretty sure most of the players in his own party hate him. Those that praise him aren't going to be on the scene much longer. His cult is not growing or gaining new followers. After he loses in 2024, and after that when he dies, I think most of America will react with a sigh of relief.

(72,188 posts)After he finally bites the big one, we don't need the Trumpsters to vote Democratic or third party; we just need for them to stay home on Election Day.
It will only happen when MAGAs die and go spend eternity with him in Satans spa. Its a dry heat though.

(11,837 posts)Look at his recent record in losing elections -- both his and those he's endorsed. His "rallies" are getting smaller. I think he will have a big surprise come November if the GOP is stupid enough to give him their nomination. Biden has a glorious track record of accomplishments. Most of all, Biden is POSITIVE. Supporting Trump is a continual downer. No one wants a downer again for four years.

(3,477 posts)It's possible for both conservatives and liberals/progressives to want good things for America and just disagree on exactly what those good things look like or how to arrive at those results. I don't have any issues with someone if they disagree with me on policy because they have a conservative outlook, as long as I can believe they're holding their positions in good faith and with good intent.
Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case with the GOP in a long, looooooooong time, and it's gotten exponentially worse since Trump came down that damn golden escalator. He's exacerbated and amplified the worst elements of conservatism, particularly with regard to the culture wars and hardcore social conservatism.
It'd be nice if that strain of conservatism died with him, but that might just be me being too optimistic.

Germany lost the war and Hitler committed suicide and yet the Nazis are still with us!
Trumpism is too important to his followers, even if he were to suddenly meet his demise, what he created would continue!

(6,922 posts)in our nation. Those deplorable people existed before Trump and they will exist after he is gone. As long as they have an effective "spokesperson" for their hatred and rage they aren't going to go quietly.

These people have always been amongst us. They were the people having picnics at lynchings with their families in the first half of the 20th century.
They were the KKK in the 20s.
They were the Bund (American Nazi supporters) in the 30s.
There were the people who were screaming at black kids trying to attend white schools in the south, bombed black churches, sicced dogs on black protesters, and murdered civil rights workers.
They were the McCarthy red scare freaks, John Birch supporters, Goldwater supporters, Nixon's law and order supporters, dog whistling reaganite racists in the 80s, abortion doctor murderers, militia members and sovereign citizens in the 90s and teabaggers, in the 00s.
They have always been among us, and it's going to take a lot more than getting rid of this traitorous thug to drag them kicking and screaming into reality.

Trump will be America's Hitler. Dead but not forgotten. A sickening and hateful inspiration for others.

(8,880 posts)So long as he is paying or blackmailing GOP pols to undermine the US, there will be problems. After Putin dies and Trump is taken out by the cheeseburger Lawrence mentioned last night, there will be a power vacuum and plenty of low life dictator wannabees for the big money guys to buy into power.
But, things will probably get a little better, for a while.

to come out and say & do all the ugly things the rest of us had agreed were socially unacceptable (at a minimum) and even illegal.
I think the majority of us didnt realize that what we thought of as a small fringe could be released and whipped up into a movement that all they needed was a con man of Trumps stature.
Sure I wish hed stroke out publicly and soon but the conspiracy theories
will go on forever among the brainwashed. Walking turds like Bannon and Hannity will continue their project to destroy democracy, aided by a few choice billionaires real ones who work in the shadows.
